(Wind Speed =39.00 m/s. Terrain Category-22 Net Bearing Capaeity of Soil=8.00 Mt/m.1
TYPE OF STRUCTURE :

The structure of the transmission pole is primarily a thin wall, slender, single column structure made of polygonal closed
section of reducing diameter from bottom to top . The pole is consisting of a number of segments along its length and
joined together with slip jointing method . Closed polygonal section is formed by mechanical process from high tensile
grade of steel sheets of required thickness and continuous weld along the length only with no circumferential welded
joints. Circumferential weld is only deposited at its junction with base plate..

The pole is fixed with HD. Bolts on RCC. foundation as per design.
The transmission arrangement is primarily symmetric about the pole axis.

DESIGN BASIS :

The structure of the pole is analysed and designed in two parts, 'Part-A' for steel superstructure and 'Part-B' for the RCC.
foundation. The superstructure has been analysed with the dead load and lateral load due to wind. The dead weight of the
entire structure is too small as compared to its height, thus total seismic force is much less than the forces developed due
to wind. The foundation has been designed considering limit state method on the basis of soil data supplied by the client
and other loading data obtained from the analysis of the the superstructure.

The design calculation has been carried out based on the basic philosophy, that seismic and wind do not occur at the
same point of time. Thus wind being the governing load, has been considered ignoring the negligible seismic load for the
design calculation of the pole and its foundation.

Our scope of work is to design the RCC. foundation only.

As pole type PD+4.5 and PD+6 has a very little difference in their pole geometry and ground level forces, foundation for
both the type of pole has been made same on the basis higher force values between the two.

The following code of practices were considered for the design calculations :-

1) IS-1904-1986
2) IS-11233-1985
3) IS-875-1987, Part-III

2. FROM STABILITY POINT OF VIEW, FOUNDATION FOR SUCH SINGLE COLUM STRUCTURE/SYSTEM NEED TO BE SO
DESIGNED THAT THE GROSS PRESSURE BELOW THE FOOTING SHALL BE ALWAYS (+)IVE. IN MOST OF THE CASES
THUS SBC VALUE ONLY DOES NOT GOVERN THE FOUNDATION GEOMETRY, WHEREAS THE STABILITY REQUIREMENT
PRIMARILY GOVERNS.
