To Whom It May Concern,

Hello my name is Felisha Mccurry. I am currently a high school senior at Erwin High School
pursuing a career as a middle school choir teacher. I plan to go to Mars Hill University and major
in music education after I graduate.

For my graduation project I will be studying the importance of music education in schools and
what kindof impact it serves mentally, socially, physically etc. Basically what type of purpose it
serves and why cutting it would have a negative effect mentally, socially, physically etc.

For my practical experience I will helping to teach a middle school choir their Spring concert
repertoire and eventually going on to conduct one of their Broadway pieces they are singing at
their concert.

For my mentor I have chosen my chorus teacher Ms.Affron. She will be spending 10 hours with
me helping me get down piano basics, conducting skills and how to approach teaching the
middle school chorus.

I have been heavily apart of chorus and musicals for 7 years at Erwin now. I have had several
outside of school experiences with chorus such as All State, All County, Mars Hill Festival and
so on. Id say about 75 % of my life is spent either rehearsing for my women's singing group at
7:30am every morning, singing in my chorus class, staying after school until 5pm everyday for
musical rehearsals or going home to study my music for my internship, musical or chorus in
general. I take music seriously as a part-time job in my life.

Although my whole life is full with music already something that sets this experience out apart
from others is that not only am I learning the music but I am then applying my knowledge to
teach other kids the music. This will take a confidence thats seperate from performing or just
singing my part in chorus class. This will take repetition, problem solving and finding ways to
transfer how I feel about the music to this students. This will also require me getting conducting
down, knowing which parts to cue and keeping a steady tempo. I am the leader of that song
which could be a lot of pressure but its different that a participant. Since im an aspiring chorus
teacher these things are essential in the everyday life of a chorus teacher.

Plagiarism isnt your own original thoughts and plagiarism means taking the credit and time
someone else put into something they are proud of and ripping it from them in 2 minutes to claim
something they couldve spent 2 months on. Not fair.

Id like to thank you for your time and consideration towards my graduation project.

Sincerely,

Felisha Mccurry
