4.3 Equipment Setting and Alignment

1) Prior to installation, orientation of equipment shall be carefully checked and confirmed,

and then equipment may be placed in position.

2) The equipment shall be set and aligned at the proper positions, elevations, levelness
and perpendicularity with reference to the bench marks, centerlines, elevations marked
on the foundation and in accordance with the construction drawings. The alignment and
setting of the equipment shall measure and adjust the bench marks on the equipment
as following:

The bottom elevation of the equipment support shall take reference of the
foundation elevation lines.
The equipment centerlines shall be overlapped with foundation centerlines.
The perpendicularity of the equipment shall be measured on the locations on both
ends.
The levelness of the horizontal equipment shall be measured on equipment
centerlines.
The vertical vessel with agitator shall be aligned and measured with basis on the
agitators connection flange raised faces.
Other base surface or finishing surface required in the vendors recommendations
or technical specifications.

3) If the height of the vertical equipment exceeds over 20 m, the measurement and
adjustment of the perpendicularity of equipment shall be conducted in the way to avoid
strong sun shining and wind velocity over 6 m/s.

4) For the installation of the horizontal vessels, it is of key importance that the free
expansion of the equipment shall be ensured. The elevation, alignment and levelness
shall follow requirements set out in relevant specifications. And the allowable tolerance
of elevation is 3mm (or as TPCS technical specification requirements).

5) Regarding the alignment of equipment, the plumbing of vertical equipment shall be

checked on two longitudinal axes 90 o apart with two transits; and the alignment of
horizontal equipment shall be achieved with U type leveling instrument and spirit level.
Leveling plates and shims will be used for equipment alignment. The maximum out of
tolerance on verticality shall be 1:1000 (or as TIIPS technical specification
requirements). The levelness for horizontal vessels shall not be out of the tolerance of
L/1000, radial tolerance of 2D/1000, where, L stands for the distance between the two

saddle supports, D for the external diameter of vessel.

6) The supports for internal packing, which shall be clean and free of any soil, dust, oils
and other detrimental objects, shall be level, firm. The packing installation shall be
conducted after the equipment installation, hydrostatic test, air flushing, etc..

7) When leveling the equipment, wedges or liners shall be used for adjustment instead of
loosing or tightening the anchor nuts, or locally imposing external forces. The out of
tolerance shall be within the requirements stated in the applicable technical
specifications.

The height of the leveling plates/shims used for medium and small equipment is
within 30 ~ 60 mm.

The leveling plates/shims shall extend the edge of base plate of equipment about
10 ~ 20 mm, and project over anchor bolts to assure the uniform and even loads
to be born by equipment supports. A maximum of three (3) shims/leveling plates
will be used per pack. Stepped or tapered shims shall not be used.

8) If equipment is installed with anchor bolt pockets, the equipment shall be subject to
preliminary alignment and leveling by placing temporary shims, then grouting anchor
bolts, when the grout strength reaches 75% of its design strength, the final alignment
and leveling shall be achieved by setting shims at the both sides of anchor bolts.

9) Concerning the horizontal equipment will have thermal expansion under operation, care
shall be paid that anchor bolts at sliding foot shall not obstruct the expansion of
equipment. In case the sliding base plate will be used, the underside of base plates and
the surface of foundation shall be clean and smooth, and lubricant oil will be coated.

10) Secondary Grouting: the anchor bolt pockets and foundation surface shall be fully filled
