1. Program Goals

The Chewbacca University Dental Hygiene The Force is dedicated to preparing students who will
be able to perform these roles of clinician, change agent, educator/health promoter, researcher, and
administrator, enabling them to meet the future oral health needs of society.

1. To provide comprehensive dental hygiene care to individuals from diverse


socioeconomic, educational, and cultural backgrounds in various dental health care
settings1
2. To promote oral health and disease prevention for individuals and the community
through dental hygiene care1
3. To serve as a resource of oral health knowledge and education for the community
and healthcare professionals2
4. To participate and promote collaborative community health programs with other
healthcare professionals2

2. Mission Statement

The Department of Dental Hygiene Force derives its purposes and functions from the mission
statements of Chewbacca University.
The mission of Chewbacca University Dental Hygiene Force program is to educate and encourage
students to promote oral health and improve oral health status of the community. The education will
promote students learning through the dental hygiene theory and practice which enhance students
knowledge and clinical skills. The education will provide the educational growth and development of each
student through lifelong learning1-2.

3. Program Philosophy

The Chewbacca University (CU) Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene program believes that
oral health is a vital component to overall health. As health care providers, it is the responsibility of dental
hygienists to promote and improve oral health status within the community in order for individuals to
achieve optimal overall health.
In order to be successful in this role, the CU Dental Hygiene Program strives to provide an
educational environment where students can develop the knowledge, psychomotor and critical thinking
skills, and values necessary to fully participate in the health field. Students and faculty become partners in
the educational process by engaging in professional roles in order to delivery dental hygiene care. This
partnership ensures that the process is cooperative and focused on the delivery of preventive and
educational services to the public1-2.
