Re: Fair Trade Campaign

During our busy daily routines we rarely have time to stop and think about where our food comes from
and how the people producing it are treated. Fair Trade is a fast growing movement that is working
towards better pay and working conditions for farm workers across the globe. Many companies such as
Wal-Mart and Chipotle have recognized the importance of Fair Food and sell and use such products in
their stores. One organization known as United Students For Fair Trade is working to build awareness
and take action one city at a time. Hopefully this memo will bring light on the issue of Fair Trade as well
as provide examples of how United Students for Fair Trade and other organizations are working
towards a Fair Trade world.

Fair trade is a social justice movement that works to provide more power, working conditions,
and equal rights to the farmer's.
Also seeks to promote exposure to the problems that farmers (low wages, working conditions,
sexual harassment, slavery, etc.) are facing and highlights the need for change
Corporations that deal with fair trade must show transparency within the organization

Fair Trade is important for all of us here at Seton Hill. It improves the lives and working conditions
of the workers who create the products that we live off of. This sense of responsibility within our society
and organizations follows the principles instilled in the students of Seton Hill through Catholic Social
Teaching. The organizations working towards a Fair Food world are focusing on creating a safe, moral,
fair way of living for millions of workers all over the world. Seton Hill can fulfill its mission even more by
joining in the fight.

Objectives:
Bring awareness to Fair Trade on campus
Host a dinner that serves some, if not all, fair food products.

Mission: Students in Dr. Jennifer Jones Writing for Public Relations class at Seton Hill University are
working to move the campus towards Fair Trade. Specifically, the class is focusing on fair food and
bringing awareness to the Greensburg community. Farmers across the country and world are suffering
from unfair working conditions and wages. Fair food works to give more power to the farmers.
Students will be working to bring awareness to the fair food act on campus by researching,
educating, campaigning and holding a fair food dinner towards the end of the semester.

Vision: Students in the Writing for Public Relations class hope to spark a movement for fair food on
campus. We know that no major changes can be made in one semester, but we hope that bringing
awareness and education to the plate will allow for more progress each year.
