9 XRIO Converter Structure

The XRIO Converter is divided into two sections: the 7UM62x section and the RIO section. Both sections
consist of several function blocks.

9.1 7UM62x
The 7UM62x section is sub-divided into four groups: the Relay Parameter Section, the Additional
Information section, the RIOplus section and the Template Controller section.

9.1.1 Relay Parameter Section

This section includes the parameters which have to be changed by the user. All relay parameters are
included in this section and have to be set to the actual relay values. The parameters are grouped and
named as in the DIGSI software 4.81 / 4.82. Each parameter in this block can be identified by a parameter
Foreign ID, which is identical to the parameter ID in the DIGSI software.

Figure 9.1: Relay Parameter Section

9.1.2 Additional Information

On the one hand this block contains additional test parameters as tolerances or angles of the direction
elements, which have not to be changed by the user. Furthermore this block contains test parameters,
which are not found in the relay. These parameters have to be changed by the user. Please insert the
required power system and test data under the following sections:
General
Power System Data
Circuit Breaker Data
Test Parameter

Figure 9.2: Additional Information

The block General includes detailed information needed for the test report like manufacturer, device type,
substation name etc. These parameters are linked to the NamePlate block in RIOplus and from there to
the Device block in RIO. Thus these parameters are available in the protocol report of the Test Universe
software. This section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user.

The block Power System Data includes power system configuration information which is needed for
testing the relay protection function with OMICRON Test Universe software, e.g. CT or VT connection and
dimensioning settings. This section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user according
to the customer power system.

The block Relay Information contains relay specific parameters such as tolerances or angles of
directional elements which cannot be set by the user, because they are constant values. All values set in
this block can be found in the chapter "Technical Data" of the relay's documentation. Typically, this block
does not have to be changed.

The block Circuit Breaker Information includes information which is required for the CB test. This
section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user.

The block Test Parameters contains conditions for testing adaptive functions witch are not directly
supported by the test modules This section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user.

The block Test Tolerance includes an additional test tolerance to calculate the start and end value for trip
and pick-up tests by using the OMICRON TU Ramping or State Sequencer module. Typically, this block
does not have to be changed.

9.1.3 RIOplus (Advanced view)

The RIOplus block acts as an interface between the relay and system data and the test modules. The
block is needed for the RIO parameter conversion or to link the RIOplus parameters directly to the test
modules (e.g. State Sequencer or Ramping). The RIOplus section is divided into different sub-blocks,
which include either relay information or modeling of a certain protection function. The sub-blocks for
these protection functions include all the data needed for testing the respective function.

OMICRON electronics GmbH 9/12

9.1.4 Template Controller (Advanced view)

The Template Controller block contains special test data, which cannot be mapped in the standardized
RIOplus section, like e.g. the activation flags for Pause Modules. This block can be increased by the user
with new customized blocks and parameters for testing functions that are not included in the OMICRON
Siemens 7UM62x XRIO Converter.

9.2 RIO
The RIO section of the XRIO converter contains all specialized RIO functions needed to use the more
specialized test modules (like Advanced Differential or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test
Universe software.

Warning:
Do not change any value in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of the
Relay Parameter Section.
Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object.
Changing parameters in this view could disable formulas in the RIO section.

9.2.1 Device
The RIO Device block contains general data for the characterizations of the protected object and relay
e.g. manufacturer or substation name. Furthermore the block contains the information about the current
and voltage transformers and the maximum values and limits for the CMC output currents and voltages.

9.2.2 Generator Differential

The RIO Differential function provides the necessary values for testing the differential protection function
of the 7UM6x relay. The RIO Differential function contains all values needed for using the following
OMICRON Test Universe modules:
Diff Configuration
Diff Characteristic
Diff Trip Time
Diff Harmonic Restraint

9.2.3 Generator Differential Start Curve

The RIO Differential function provides the necessary values for testing the starting curve of the differential
protection function. The RIO Differential function contains all values needed for using the following
OMICRON Test Universe modules:
