EQ: How do musicians perform different Rhythms? -Students are encouraged to perform and clap rhythms at
varying skill levels
SWBAT perform various rhythms at sight and in their head. -Teacher will model, verbally review, or select a student
SWBAT compose and improvise various rhythms on paper. model to demonstrate content
-Rhythm and Rest trees will be used as visual aids and
reminders for struggling students

Instructional Procedures

Greetings - T instructs students to have folder, pencil, and IPad


Log Blog entry - Clair de lune - Debussy
Fab 5 Presentation 5 students present
Review rhythm tree / rest tree with exercise (call and response)
Target words, Cheese = quarter note, Piz-za = eight notes, Ra-vi-o-li = 16th notes.
o T performs echo activity keeping beat and performing rhythm.
o T makes sure every Ss paper is completely filled out.
Notation review (Reading)
o Introduce notated 16 beat patterns on board.
o Students read and clap. Review names and syllables for clapping.
o Practice various rhythmic combinations using white board.
Rhythm rap activity (Improvisation)
o T hands out worksheet for Rhythm rap
o T explains and has students come up to double check word key.
o S use all rhythms and at least one quarter rest.
o Present finished products if time allows
Bean bag game ( if time allows )
o T will have student stand in the middle and go around the circle clapping various rhythms
Assessment
Students sight read familiar rhythmic patterns at sight.
Students identified and performed various improvised rhythms their worksheet.
