Heat Rash prickly heat
-
A rash caused by skin exposure to heat and humidity
where the skin does not dry and always sweaty causing
bacterial or fungal infection to block the sweat ducts, and
thus developed itchy rash that can easily rupture when
scratched and get infected.
Prevention:
Wearing 100 % cotton clothing. 100%
Showering and changing into clean dry clothing.

Heat Cramps
v Involuntary muscle contraction from loss of electrolytes due to
excessive sweating.
v Muscle cramps.
v Pain in arms legs and abdomen.
Heat Cramps First Aid:
Rest in cool area.
Drink lots of water.
Eat foods rich in electrolytes like bananas and oranges.
Heat Stroke and Heat
Exhaustion
Heat Exhaustion
Caused by excessive sweating in a hot climate.
Loss of fluid and electrolytes from the body causes an
imbalance in the body fluids.
Commonly follows exertion in hot / humid environment.
/
.
Signs & Symptoms of Heat
Exhaustion
HEAT EXHAUSTION
Gradual onset.
Lethargic.
Thirst.
Nausea and vomiting.
Muscular cramps.
Skin pale, cool & clammy, sweating continues normally.
Temperature may be normal or slightly raised.
Treatment of Heat Exhaustion
Move to cool shady well ventilated place.
Replace fluid loss with water and ORS.
Remove unnecessary clothing.
Commence gradual cooling with cool compress.
Rest.
Heat Stroke
Caused by a failure of the bodys temperature regulatory
mechanism.
(
)
May occur after only a few hours exposure to intense heat / humidity
/
/
More commonly occurs after prolonged exertion and / or exposure
in a hot / humid climate.

Dry, hot skin
Raised temperature
Headache,nausea vomiting
Restlessness & confusion leading to delirium
&
Collapse
Convulsion
Death
Treatment of Heat Stroke
Move to a cool shady area.
Remove all unnecessary clothing
Apply cool compress to armpits, groin and back of neck.
If conscious replace fluids with water and ORS
If unconscious I.V. fluid replacement
Continual monitoring by medical department
Heat Stress Prevention
Reduce alcohol intake.
