Propaganda is type of communication that intends to disseminate idea or goals of

a propagandist and further extend it through the response of the audience in favor of the
propagandist (Jowett, 2012). Propaganda and media are connected to each other
historically. Propagandist use journalism to twist, heighten the favorable side of each
news, to limit the negative part and filter the information to comply with the goals of the
propagandist (Jowett, 2012).

Propaganda comes in different form. There are white, black and gray propaganda.
White propaganda have a legitimate source and credibility. It present that the
propagandist have a good intention and the stories that audience heard is somehow close
to the actual truth (Jowett, 2012). Black Propaganda is the opposite of the white
propaganda. It does not present the source, so the credibility is weak and the propagandist
intention is close to his/her goal by expressing lies and deceit (Jowett, 2012). Gray
Propaganda is somehow in the middle. It emphasis disinformation by hiding some
contents of the truth and its widespread or more common propaganda used by people
(Jowett, 2012).

Media serve as the connection between the people and all the events and stories
occurring around us. Through news, poster, advertisement and other medium, these
stories dissipate so fast in many forms. Audience reacts and are affected by these stories.
The stories or news can be affiliated to political, science, natural occurrences, economics
etc. Since news covers many fields of interest, it can be the best ground to construct and
embed propaganda as it reach the mass audience in a short period of time and the
effectiveness of the audience believing it.

There are notable propaganda movement in our history that produce a massive
change in different views in life. These paper focuses on the propaganda launched by the
Nazi and todays America.

Nazi Propaganda origin can be attributed to Adolf Hitlers Mein Kampf. Mein
Kampf is a book where he explained the importance of propaganda and its practices
(Narayanaswami). Its aim was to teach the people about the propaganda and assurance of
its continuation.

When Hilter came into power as the Chancellor of the Germany, he immediately
suppress the freedom of speech and controlled all the media activities (Narayanaswami).
A law was passed called the Editorial Control Law stating that all press was under the
Government Control and all non-aryans were banned from participating to any
journalistic activities (Narayanaswami). These help Hitler to suppress his enemy and all
against his propaganda.

The goal of the propaganda was to indoctrinate the people about the views of Nazi
Propaganda, especially what Hitler wants. There they explain the notion of Good and Evil
and Us and Them duality and what makes them superior. This led to the Holocaust where
in all the undesirable were been genocide. They viewed the Jews as a demonic presence
that they must eradicate to improve the political and economic state of Germany. This
turn the German country as an aggressive nation and became the proprietor of the WWII
(Narayanaswami). Because of the effectiveness of their manipulation, they became a
powerful country and German people followed Hilter, they view him as a messianic
figure as he waged them into war against country and killed the Jews, Homosexual as
they viewed them as their enemy (Narayanaswami).

Since the Nazi controlled all the media activities, they can easily spread out the
content of their propaganda. Posters was the main media Nazi used to spread their
propaganda. These triggered different social biases. It means that Nazi psychologically
affecting the population of Germany through their works (Narayanaswami). When poster
that viewed Hitler as a messianic figure, this pertains to Halo Effect and Authority Bias,
where in they sought to follow him because the Germans felt that Hilter was leading them
to something good. Also the Bandwagon effect, wherein Germans tend to believe what
the majority of the population believe in to (Narayanaswami).

The poster portraying Hitler and his ideals were successful in inducing
psychological biases to the Germans. These kept them united and loyal to Hilter. When it
happened, Hitler defined who the enemy was. This led to Superiority and Selection
Biases that they picked undesirable traits from the enemy they want to considered and
exaggerates it to highlight that they were superior in contrast to them. These enemy were
the Jews, Homosexual, Romani People and other undesirable (Narayanaswami).

After distinguishing their enemy, Hitler led the people to support the doctrine of
his propaganda. The enemy was successfully defined and framed and to achieve superior
status. Hitler also encouraged them to joined military. This act led to crime, the holocaust
and war where the undesirable were been genocide and triggered WWII
(Narayanaswami).

Beside poster and controlling journalistic activities, movies with theme related to
the propaganda was screened that heighten up the psychological biases that drives to
them.
