Agnew, Bruce. "Global Warming Threatens World Health." Is Global Warming a Threat?, edited
by Mary E. Williams, Greenhaven Press, 2003. At Issue. Opposing Viewpoints in
Context. Accessed 2 May 2017.

In Global Warming Threatens World Health author Bruce Agnew discusses how because of the
rising temperatures worldwide the effects would not only be drastic to the Earth but to the safety
of humans as well. He mentions many potential outcomes from climate change such as crop
failure, extreme and dangerous weather events, and the spread of new or current infectious
diseases. Agnew then goes on to state that the places that will be most affected are developing
countries without the technology and resources to adapt to the rising temperatures. To write this
article Agnew used his previous knowledge and experience of being a science writer to express
his hypothesis on the outcome that global warming will have on our health. The author is very
straight forward in his opinion of global warming being dangerous and offers no
counterargument. Compared to E. Jean Brennan's Global Warming Poses a Grave Threat to
Wildlife Bruce Agnew depicts more broad results of global warming while Brennan focuses on
wildlife. I would recommend this article to someone looking for more information on the
potential outcomes of global warming.

Avery, Dennis. "Global Warming Benefits Life on Earth." Global Warming, edited by Cynthia
A. Bily, Greenhaven Press, 2006. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in
Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "Climate Forecast: Warm and
Sunny," www.cgfi.org, 19 May 2005.

Dennis Avery's article points out that Earth's climate constantly cycles between periods of
warming and of cooling and we are currently in a warming period. Avery mentions that these
warmer temperatures have proven to be better for our environment. He expresses that crops do
better at warmer temperatures and most deaths caused by famine and droughts are due to colder
periods. The author also mentions that the atmosphere is more stable during these warmer
temperatures and which results in less extreme weather events during these periods. Dennis
Avery studied agricultural economics at both Michigan State University and the University of
Wisconsin and is currently the director of the Center for Global Food Issues at the Hudson
Institute. Due to his prior and current experience with agriculture, Avery writes an educated
article on his positive views towards global warming. Avery's views are similar to
Edmund Contoski's from Global Warming is a Myth in that they both believe that global
warming is not due to the emission of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gasses. I would
recommend this article to someone who is looking for a unique perspective on global warming.

Behreandt, Dennis. "Global Warming Is Not a Serious Problem." The Environment, edited by
Louise I. Gerdes, Greenhaven Press, 2009. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints
in Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "Global-Warming: Myths
Exposed," New American, 7 Jan. 2008, pp. 31-32.

Author of the article Global Warming is Not a Serious Problem, Dennis Behreandt, discusses
with great passion that global warming is not a worldwide catastrophe like a lot of people make
it out to be and claims that the emission of carbon dioxide has nothing to do with currently rising
temperatures. He makes this connection by pointing out that it is not nearly as warm as it has
been in the past when there wasnt as much carbon dioxide in the air. The author claims that
global warming is a scare tactic by the United Nations to control the economy.
Dennis Behreandt is an American journalist who uses his writing to inform readers of an
ostracized view on the issue of global warming. This article is similar to Global Warming Is a
Get-Rich Scam by Michael Reagan where Reagan claims that global warming was created to
make money. I would recommend this piece of writing to someone who is interested in reading
research that shows no correlation between carbon dioxide levels and rising temperatures.

Bova, Ben. "Global Warming Is Real." Global Warming, edited by David Haugen, et al.,
Greenhaven Press, 2010. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context.
Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "Facts Show Global Warming Is Real,"
NaplesNews.com, 29 Nov. 2008.

In this non-fiction text, Ben Bova aims to persuade to readers the dangers and severity of global
warming and its effects on Earth. He talks briefly about how global warming is caused due to the
release of greenhouse gasses, then he refers to the complications leading to shrinking polar ice
caps. Lastly, he mentions some reasons why people believe global warming is a myth, claiming
that it is just a way for third world countries to get rich while crippling our economy. Bova uses
his knowledge of being a science fact and fiction novelist to write a compelling argument for
why we should believe global warming exists and that we should take it more seriously. In
comparison, Bova's ideas directly contradict those of Edmund Contoski who believes that global
warming is a myth in Global Warming is a Myth. I would recommend this article to someone
who wants to read more information regarding both sides of the argument but tends to lean
toward the side of global warming being a serious issue.
Brennan, E. Jean. "Global Warming Poses a Grave Threat to Wildlife." Global Warming, edited
by Debra A. Miller, Greenhaven Press, 2013. Current Controversies. Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "Reducing the
Impact of Global Warming on Wildlife: The Science, Management, and Policy
Challenges Ahead," Defenders.org, 2008.

E. Jean Brennan's article focuses on how wildlife is affected by human-induced global warming.
Brennan suggests that even slight changes in temperature can have dramatic effects on the
physical world. She uses vast examples all the way from how the Polar Regions are affected to
the tropical regions of the world and examine how every aspect of an ecosystem can be harmed
from rising temperatures. E. Jean Brennan has a Master of Science degree as well as a Ph.D. and
is a Senior Climate Change Scientist. Brennan views on the dangers of rising temperatures are
very clearly biased to the side of global warming being dangerous. In comparison, Brennan's
article is vastly different from Dennis Avery's Global Warming Benefits Life on Earth in the way
that Avery claims that global warming is not caused by humans while Brennan stresses that it is
caused by humans. I would recommend this to someone looking to read a well-written article
about the dangers global warming has on wildlife.

Contoski, Edmund. "Global Warming Is a Myth." Global Warming, edited by David Haugen, et
al., Greenhaven Press, 2010. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context.
Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "Global Warming, Global Myth," Liberty,
vol. 22, Sept. 2008.

In Edmund Contoski's article, he talks about how Earth always goes through fluctuations in
temperature and these fluctuations are not related to the emission of carbon
dioxide. Contoski points out that the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses are
too minuscule to make any change worth noting. In addition, Contoski says that these periods of
warmer weather are in fact beneficial to crop growing. He claims that global warming is
scientifically unproven and that it is just a political hidden agenda. Edmund Contoski uses his
knowledge of being a former environmental consultant to write an engaging argument on the
side of global warming being a minuscule to nonexistent issue. Compared to Dennis Avery's
Global Warming Benefits Life on Earth Contoski has quite a similar argument, agreeing that
carbon dioxide does not contribute to global warming. I would recommend this article to
someone that is looking for an article that provides a counter-argument and explains their faults.

Warming, edited by Cynthia A. Bily, Greenhaven Press, 2006. Opposing Viewpoints.
Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as
"Modern Global Climate Change," Science, vol. 302, 5 Dec. 2003, pp. 1-719.

In this argumentative article by Thomas R. Karl and Kevin E. Trenberth, they discuss that the
composition of that atmosphere is being changed by humans burning fossil fuels creating the
emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses. They build their argument by
including evidence such as the results from deforestation and desertification changing global
temperatures. With Thomas being the director of the National Climate Data Center and Trenberth
being the head of the Climate Analysis Section use their combined knowledge to write a
compelling argument for the side of Global warming being a serious issue. In comparison, this
article would directly contradict Edmund Contoski's Global Warming is a Myth where Edmund
claims that rising temperatures are not due to the emission of carbon dioxide and Thomas and
Trenberth are positive that carbon dioxide is the cause. I would recommend this article to
someone who wants examples of human contribution to global warming.

Lynas, Mark. "There Is No Reason to Doubt Basic Global Warming." Pollution, edited by Debra
A. Miller, Greenhaven Press, 2012. Current Controversies. Opposing Viewpoints in
Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "The Global Warming Deniers,"
New Statesman, 3 July 2008.
Mark Lynas discusses how gas emissions are heating the planet and that polar ice caps are
shrinking dramatically. He claims that once the polar ice caps are gone the temperatures rising
behavior will only accelerate. After this brief description of the global situation, the author goes
on to write about the counter argument and how politics play a role in global warming. As an
environmental activist, writer and climate change specialist Lynas uses his awareness on the
topic to persuade readers to his biased opinion. Compared to E. Jean Brennan's Global Warming
Poses a Grave Threat to Wildlife Mark Lynas shares similar views on the Polar Regions being in
great danger. I would recommend this to a reader who wants to read the persuasive writing on the
topic of global warming.

Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "It's All About Green..."
FrontPageMagazine.com, 1 Oct. 2007.

In Michael Reagan's article, he lectures that there is no real dramatic change in the greenhouse
gasses in the atmosphere and that global warming is not at all based off of any real science. He
adds that it is, in fact, a scam to get cash from foolish believers. He claims that people are doing
this by putting large taxes on anything that would involve burning fossil fuels. Michael Reagan is
an American political commentator and author, he uses his combined knowledge of politics and
writing to urge readers to be more aware of the secret agenda of these people. In comparison to
Ben Bova's Global Warming Is Real Michael Reagan's opinion completely differs.
While Bova claims global warming is caused by greenhouse gasses being released Reagan is
convinced that greenhouse gasses don't affect the atmosphere at all. I would recommend this
article to someone who wants to see how politics relate to the issue of global warming.

Romm, Joseph. "Science Disproves the Claims of Global Warming Deniers." Global Warming,
edited by David Haugen, et al., Greenhaven Press, 2010. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Accessed 2 May 2017. Originally published as "The Cold Truth
About Climate Change," Salon.com, 27 Feb. 2008.

Joseph Romm starts his argument by stating that humans are the dominant cause of global
warming and that doubters only try to protect their pride by nay-saying. Romm adds that global
warming has nothing to do with opinion and everything to do with scientifically proven fact. He
points to the rising of carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere rising due to the burning of fossil
fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. In addition, he describes the outcomes of global warming
such as rising sea levels and the melting of arctic ice. Joseph Romm is an American author,
scientist, and climate expert, he uses his expertise to write a reliable, well-cited
article. Romm takes the exact opposite position as Michael Reagan from Global Warming Is a
Get-Rich Scam. Michael claims that science has no place in global warming while Romm uses
scientific research to back up his claim. I would recommend this article to someone who
mentions both sides of the argument but is true to global warming being a real threat.
