WHAT IS AN NVQ?
MAINTAINING PLANT AND SYSTEMS:
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. It is a ’Competency based qualification specific to INSTRUMENT AND CONTROLS
the working environment under the national guidelines of an awarding body’ NVQ - LEVEL 3
An NVQ is a Nationally recognised Qualification, it is equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at grade C and
or above, and is proof of what you know and do.
Candidates must achieve FIFTEEN units made up of:
• all ELEVEN of the mandatory units;
NVQ’s are not an alternative to any other qualification but are intended to sit alongside those plus
you already have or are working towards. • FOUR further units from the technical options.

WHAT IS TRAIN 2 GAIN?

Train 2 Gain is a training programme developed to help companies and organisations improve MANDATORY UNITS - candidates must achieve all ELEVEN units.
workforce skills and business performance by providing free and subsidised training at a time
and place that suits them. Unit MPS Inst 1: Position and install instrument and control systems
Train 2 Gain is a very flexible programme that allows your employees to learn and prove competence Unit MPS Inst 2: Dismantle instrument and control systems
whilst working.
Unit MPS Inst 3: Carry out planned maintenance procedures on
instrument and control systems
TARGET AUDIENCE
Unit MPS Inst 4: Adjust instrument and control systems to meet
To qualify for any of the programmes stated in this publication, your employees must be:
 19 years of age or over operating requirements
 Employed by you, full or part time Unit MPS Inst 5: Remove components from instrument and control
In some case restrictions may apply in respect of candidates existing qualifications please ask systems
our advisor for more details Unit MPS Inst 6: Replace components in instrument and control
There are no limits to the number of employees that can be enrolled on a programme. systems
Unit MPS Inst 7: Monitor the performance and condition of instrument
WHY CHOOSE TRAIN 2 GAIN? and control systems
Train 2 Gain is a cost effective method of recognising the achievements of your employees, it will Unit MPS Inst 8: Assess the performance and condition of instrument

• all ELEVEN of the mandatory units;
NVQ’s are not an alternative to any other qualification but are intended to sit alongside those plus
you already have or are working towards. • FOUR further units from the technical options.
