Character Captain: The Odyssey involves a whole cast of great warriors and
fantastic creatures. Your task is to get to know and understand the characters in the
text. Describe their personalities--how they act, how they feel, what they think. Share
the observations you have about them to your group. Select adjectives that describe
one or more of the characters in your novel, and support your selection with examples
taken from your reading assignment.

Telemakhos Brave, generous Book 1: He spoke out against all the suitors despite
them having the advantage in number and in
authority, he also welcomed Athena even if she
disguised herself as a stranger whom he never
knew.
Athena Intelligent, Book 2: She disguised herself in different forms in
Considerate order to help Telemakhos without giving away her
true identity and at the same time providing tips
for Telemakhos to help cope with his situation
Penelope Smart, Sad Book 2: When one of the suitors, Antinoos, stated
that Penelope deceived all of the suitors by saying
that she’ll marry them only after she finished
weaving a shroud (which she unwoven every
night).
Book 4: She is also sad because not only is she
longing for Odysseus, but is also sad after finding
out about the trip of Telemakhos and also the
ambush plans of the suitors.
LITERATURE CIRCLES
Nestor Generous, Sad, Book 3: He was very hospitable towards
Intelligent Telemakhos when he first arrived at Pylos. He is
later seen as someone who is sad while
reminiscing his past experiences with Odysseus
and also being intelligent since he knows what is
going on around him and he can explain it well.
Menelaos Generous, Rich Book 4: He was shown to be a very rich and
powerful person because of how they described his
possessions and his lifestyle. Also very generous
since he kept taking in complete strangers without
question (as seen with Telemakhos and
Peisistratos)
