Every year more than 100 million animals are killed because of animal testing,

experimenting and medical training. Though is a big number to handle it is not in vain, many

scientific breakthroughs have been accomplished thanks to animal testing. animal-based testing

methods continue to fail legitimate human needs, while new discoveries in the field of

alternatives have led to new and improved techniques that do not involve live animals. (AAVS)

Animal testing doesnt always work and there are other alternatives. The US is one of the only

countries that hasnt prohibited the use of testing the effects of cosmetics on animals. The FDA

and CPSC dont require the use of animal testing but continue to endorse animal testing

methods as the gold standard. (AAVS) In Planet of the Apes an Ape by the name of Zaius

conducts many experiments on humans, most of which dont work. Most of his experiments

involve trying to tame the Beastly human by means of electro shock and deprivement of food.

None of it ended up working and all of the torture the humans went through, was in vain. Early

results indicate that this human cell-based test holds the potential to replace aspects of in vivo

animal acute toxicity testing, particularly with reference to cosmetic ingredients. (ATLA).

ALTA is a company set on finding animal testing alternatives. They have done this by using

sophisticated tests using human cells and tissues, also known as in vitro methods. (ATLA). This

is proof that we can use other methods to test the toxicity of a product instead of killing hundreds

of millions of animals every year.

Strange 2

Although there is a lot of evidence not to use animals for testing, there is another side to

it all. Animal testing is necessary because it is the only guarantee we have in making sure

products are safe. The successful development and validation of non-animal techniques, or the

analysis of existing data to satisfy regulatory requirements, provide no guarantee that this

information will be used in place of animal experiments. (PETA). Other than testing on humans,

animals are the next best thing we have. Non-animal testing can not be as trusted as its

counterpart because there is no living organism to get a reaction from. It is a lot harder to study

how products affect non living things. (PETA). This information shows why animal testing,

although can be seen a cruel, is the best option to ensure our safety. In general, no single non-

animal method can cover the complexity of any given animal test. Therefore, fixed sets of

methods have been combined into testing strategies for skin and eye irritation and skin

sensitisation testing. (ATLA). The testing done on an animal in order to insure people's safety is

too complex for non-animal testing. This is because its a lot easier to test for the side effects on

living organisms because we can see how the react. (ATLA). This is proven in Planet of the Apes

when an Ape named Helius conducts many experiments on the humans. Helius was not satisfied

with just one result, he conducted 10 to 20 experiments in order to prove his hypothesis.

Although it may seem like a lot of unneeded experimentation, his research was used to launch an

artificial satellite with 3 humans aboard.
