Cathedral

1. At the beginning, the narrator has a bad expectative about the blind man
who was just about to reach his house.
- A blind in my house was not something I looked forward to.

To his mind, inviting a blind guest is a monumental problem because he

was not accustomed to that kind of people. Also he thought it was
pathetic how her wife could have such a good relation with this man in
which they totally agree about their opinions and tastes in life. When she
explained him that believed or not Robert was a truly interesting and
good person, the opinion of her husband started to change. When he
finally gets to know him, he discovered that his attitude was a stunning
stupidity. They broke the ice with a glass of scotch and some jokes after
the dinner.

2. Robert: -This blind man was late forties, a heavy-set, balding man with
stooped shoulders, as if he carried a great weight there.

He is a very polite and intelligent person. A clear example of his

brightness was when he was drawing a cathedral with the narrator. He
never even knew how a cathedral looks like but he clearly explained to
the narrator that if he tries to describe how a cathedral is he couldnt
know either. The character fully understood the diverse perspectives of
looking something. He explained that you can look at something but
maybe you couldnt even explain what is it. Only a mind with an
astronomical intelligence could do that kind of things.
Narrators wife: This character is a very good friend of Robert. The
eternal price she has to pay for being such a good person is supporting a
husband who is a pain in the neck. She is one that deals with all the
housework and all day jobs.

Narrator: He is a racist, narcissist and a very basic man. He does not

listen to his wife advices and he loves running away from responsibilities.
A clear example of this is when they were smoking herb with Robert and
his wife asked -whats that smell? He washed his hands of the matter
with a perfect excuse.

3. In my opinion this is highly significant because it shows the gigantic

different perspectives between blind people in relation with normal people.
Normal people sometimes could see something but they could not describe it
clearly. Robert demonstrated a greatly domination of the other senses for
describing the real viewpoints of things (in this case a cathedral).

4. I would change the personality of the narrator. To my mind he should be the

one that should have to shoulder the responsibility of the wellness of the guest,
instead he persuaded Robert of consuming drugs. That is the main reason why
I believe the narrator is a real headache during the story.

I like the story because it accomplishes the mission of entertaining the reader.
Furthermore because it haves a lot of contrasts and opinions. The main ideas
that this story transmits are irreversible because they can reach youre hard
easily.
