rain and sun.

Project Proposal

Description of project: Our project is to create a timeline and model. For the timeline, we will mainly focus
on the most important Thai history events such as the Black May and Thammasat University massacre etc.
Moreover, we will research about important people, flag, symbols, fun fact, national day, and important
holiday in Thailand. We think that we will make a horizontal timeline(arrange from the older events to the
new one). For the model, we will create a floating market model. Doing this will help us to learn more and
understand more about Thailand.

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to learn about Thai history. Also, we will inform the knowledge to our
classmate and teacher. Moreover the purpose of the project is also to help us know more about big event in
Thailands history and understand more about them. This will help us know how it affect or related to
current situation in Thailand

Research Question : What are major important event in thailand history? Who was considered to be an
important person of thailand? Who has a big role in historical event of thailand? What are the things that
people needed to know about Thailand?

Thammasat University Massaccre (6 October 1976)

- The university students protest peacefully at the Thammasat University. However, the police come
and killed the students.
- The origin of this terrible events occurred because the exiled former dictator, thanom kittikachorn,
came back(He left the country because of the Premocracy Protest(14 October 1973)). He came
back on 19 September 1976 as a monk and claimed that he just want to meet his father. However,
the citizen didnt believe him.
- The citizen displeased and protest.
- The students were accused to be a communists.
- The leaders which are Border Patrol Police and the civil scout invaded and attacked the students
with weapons.They shot, raped, and murdered the students.
- Death toll: At least 46 (More than a hundred from some other sites)
- Wounded: 67
- Arrested: More than 3,000 students

1977-Coup detat
- The tenth of Coup detat in Thailand
- Leader: Sangad Chaloryu ---> Overthrow Thanin Kraivichien
- Coup detat by Sangad Chaloryu because of 6 October events and authorize Thanin Kraivichien as a
government(8 October 1976).
- On 20 October 1977, Sangad Chaloryu seize power from Thanin. He gave the reason that the
government didnt have ability to solve economic, social, and industry problems. Moreover, the
government block the citizen opinions.
- The revolutionary council ordered Kriangsak Chamanan to be a government. He regislated the
amnesty to all students and people who associated with 6 October event.

1980-1988 premocracy
- Semi-democracy-manage to become Democracy
- Prem Tinsulanonda was a premiership of Thailand in March 1980(The sixteenth prime minister of
Thailand). He won two elections in 1983 and 1986.
 - In April 1981, Young Turks or junior army officer control bangkok. However, Prem solve the problem
with no blood. He made a amnesty to all the young turks(communist).
- New constitution was made.
- Thailand become popular among industry, manufacture, and tourism. Moreover, the citizens living
standard was increased.
- In 1988, General Chatichai Choonhavan became a premiership of Thailand.

1991- Coup detat

- 23 February 1991, National Peace Keeping Council - NPKC() coup detat with Chatichai Choonhavan
- The leader of NPKC is Sunthorn Kongsompong but the most powerful person is Suchinda kraprayoon.
- They arrested the government on the plane C130 at Don Muang Airport.
- The reason of this coup detat is corruption, the politician bully bureaucrat, military institute was
threatened, government ignored the destruction of royal institution case.
- NPKC chose Anand Panyarachun to be a government( )
- NPKC canceled 1978 Constitution and proclaim the 1991 Constitution
- The result of the election on 22 March 1992 show that Narong Wongwan(Samagkeetham Party) have a
highest vote. However, Margarette told that Narong cannot request for the U.S. visa because he close to
the drug dealer. Therefore, Suchinda kraprayoon became a government on 7 April 1992.

Black May(17-24 May 1992)

- Citizens protest government(Suchinda kraprayoon)

- Origin: 1991 Coup detat---> Suchinda promised that he will not be a government but ultimately he
became a government. Also, the some people didnt agree with the constitution.

- People protest since April. Then, on 17 May, during the protestor travel to the official residence-->the

the violent on the Southern part of Thailand(with Muslim conflict), and the failed on expose his
wealth.

- He is a Chinese merchant descendants

- After graduation, he worked as a police officer and the teacher at police school. Then he received a

the law, the owner of the club must not have any case/lawsuit. Therefore, he sold the club to Abu
Dhabi United Group.
- Then his allies won the election in 2007. Samak Sundaravej(Peoples power party leader) became a
25 government of Thailand. However, this result in the protest of People's Alliance for
Democracy(PAD) or Yellow shirt in 2008-->close the airport.
- In 2007, he went back to Thailand because of his corruption case.

- Born: 21 June 1967
- In power: 8 August 2011 to 7 May 2014
- The 28 government of Thailand
- Pheu Thai Party On 3 July 2011 election, this party recieved 265 votes out of 500.

- She made a amnesty to Thaksin, so the people who called themselves People's Democratic Reform
Committee(PDRC) protest her. Later, they cancel the amnesty act but it too late. The people then protest
on expelling Yingluk. After that she announced the dissolution of Parliament and the election will be
hold on 2 February 2014. However, the protest continue. So the election canceled.

During the world war 2, thailand is neutral until Japan invaded the south part of thailand. The government was
forced to sign to be alliances with japan ( Japan came to thailand with a goal to ask for a path to go to attack
myanmar and malaysia) On 25 January 1942, Thailand announced a war with USA and England but
thais embassy and thai people in USA disagree with the action of thai government then they
together formed a group called Free Thai Movement. As a result of the war japan lose meaning
that any countries who was alliance with japan also lose this war but because of Free thai
movement USA announced that the war between Thailand and USA was void and later on
England also ended the war with thailand.

Siam Revolution of 1932 ..2475 ..1932

The siam revolution of 1932 was the major crucial change in thailands History during the reign of King
rama VII which change thai government from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. The revolution
was lead by a group of military and citizen called Khana Ratsadon or People's' Party. Their goal was to
ended the Chakri Dynasty and monarchy system of thailand and also to change the political system. This
revolution lead to the first constitution of thailand. the revolution ended in June 24, 1932

Coup d etat 1958 in thailand

The coup led by Sarit Thanarat, field marshal and premier in a military government of thailand. He
seized the power of thai government due to the conflict between a military and a police and a
cheating of election that created a huge chaos in Thailand. He also established himself as prime
minister of thailand at that time. As a result of the coup the first constitution 1932 of thailand was
repealed and this coup created a big change of Thailand politic in thai history

1973 Thai popular uprising

Since Thanom failed an election, he used his military power to take over government
and established himself as a prime minister of thailand and ruled thailand as a
dictatorship for about 15 years. In 14 october 1973 ,more than five hundred thousand
people including a student led a protest for asking a real democracy and the election
from Thanom. This protest started when a small group of student release a brochure for
asking real democracy and were caught by a military making most of people upset and
came together to join the protest. As a result of the protest, about 77 people death, 857
people injured and Thanom resign. By a royal command of King rama 9 Sanya
Dharmasakit, Thammasat chancellor, was appointed to be a prime minister of thailand. This protest was the
biggest protest in thais history.

baht's devaluation
during tha time thai government decide to float thai currency causing a value of thai currency, baht,
decrease rapidly. the crisis was called as tom yum goong crisis in thailand. This crisis caused from several
ways as a dept of a country , Account deficit, over investment in Real estate business leading to economic
bubble which is a cost of real estate higher than reality and etc. Not only thailand that get an effect from the
crisis but other countries in asia as indonesia and japan also get an effect too. The crisis result in several
things as the ratio between the dept and the GDP increase higher, IMF(International Monetary Fund) came to
control a stabilization of thai currency and find the solution for this crisis but didnt work. For the solution IMF guide a
way that people should follow but it got worse so people turned back to follow sufficiency economy of King rama 9.
Finally by the time of prime minister chinnawat the crisis got better.

lack of foreign currency and also the caused from a depth of a country , Account deficit, over investment

The constitution of the kingdom of thailand or peoples constitution was officially used in 11 october
1997. The constitution was only one constitution in thailand that came from people election and people
also involved in writing this constitution that why we called it peoples constitution. The constitution
was created to replace 1991 constitution. However, in present, 1997 constitution was replaced by 2006
constituion after the millitary coup in 19 november 2006 was success.

Janocha ,the 13th coup of thailand. The coup was caused by political crisis that began since Yingluck
Shinawatra won the election in 2011 then became a prime minister of thailand and the protest led by Suthep
Thaugsuban who was a member of democracy party forming the protest to oppose Yingluck government,
resulting in a lot of death and injured people. So The military led a coup and established themselves as National
Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to stop the bloodshed protest, to make peace for country ,and to govern
Thailand as Prayuth janocha took a position of Thailands Prime Minister. Prayuth being as the prime minister of
thailand since 2014 - now.

- Since Yingluck became the first female prime minister of Thailand, the big protest led by Suthep
Thaugsuban was formed to oppose Yinglucks Government.
- This protest result in a huge number of death and injuried people.
- Due to this conflict, finally The military took over the power of Yinglucks government
