This assignment serves as an introduction to the use of Autodesks AutoCAD MAP 3D CAD
drawing and Object Classification. It demonstrates the use of COGO, Annotation tool, Object
Classification Definition files, Object Classes, Clean up a drawing and finally to create a layout.
Through this assignment, I have learned a familiarity with Autodesks AutoCAD MAP 3D CAD
drawing and Object Classification. Thus, this assignment has great value to work in future.
Should you have any question regarding the enclosed documents, or if there are technical
issues regarding the files please contact me at your convenience at (647) 739 8609. Thank
you for your time and attention. I look forward to your comments or suggestions.

Project: CAD and GIS.
Introduction
This assignment serves as an introduction to the use of Autodesks AutoCAD MAP 3D CAD
drawing and Object Classification. CAD is short for computer-aided design which uses computer
systems to assist in the creation, modification, and analysis of an image design. The software is
used to increase productivity, improve quality, and create a database for easy access.
The purpose of this assignment is to gain a basic practical familiarity and to demonstrate an
ability to use COGO, Annotation tool, Object Classification Definition files, Object Classes, Clean
up a drawing and finally to create a layout.
All drawings which have been created following map standard procedure so that they are in a
ready state to export to other GIS formats. This report outlines the key features which have been
adopted to achieve map standard.
Methodology
To inset a new subdivision the coordinate geometry (COGO) tool has been used. It has been
allowed to input commands to enter accurate geometry when creating objects. The COGO
Input dialog box is available on the ribbon. It has been possible to enter COGO data by
entering mapcogo at the command prompt.
It has following commands which are given below with their brief functionality:
Angle/Distance: specify a point by specifying an angle and a distance from another point.
Azimuth/Distance: specify a point by specifying azimuth and distance from another point.
Bearing/Bearing: specify a point using the projections from two existing lines or points
and two bearings.
3
Bearing/Distance: specify a point by specifying a bearing and a distance from another
point.
Deflection/Distance: specify a point by specifying a deflection angle and a distance from
another point.
Distance/Distance: calculated a new point using two points and two distances to the new
point. You must select one of the two calculated points.
Inverse Report: An inverse report gives you information about the relationship between
two points.
Orthogonal/Offset: specify a point using distance and offset from an existing line.
For this assignment, to draw the parcel boundary, particularly Bearing Distance tool has been
used by specifying a bearing and a distance from two Observed Referenced Points (ORPs) that
has been given in the Term of References. To create an arc, Start, End and Radius tools has been
used by entering a radius along with Bearing/Distance.
To create object data containing street address following procedure has been adopted;
1. Click Map > Object Data > Define Object Data.
2. In the Define Object Data dialog box, select or click New Table to create a new table.
3. Enter a name Street_Single_Line for the new table.
4. To create a new data field, fill in the Field Definition area:
5. Enter a field name and field type.
6. Select the field type. The type specifies what kind of information it required. For example,
for a numeric enter integer is specified.
7. Click Add to add the new field to the table.
Coordinate system or spatial reference: The projection data format preference is UTM NAD83
using Longitude and Latitude in decimal degrees.
4
Object Class Structure and Definition Files: The chart (Table-1) below demonstrates the object
classes and definitions which are industry standards for using AutoCAD. They are important in
order to maintain cohesiveness and accuracy.
Text Style and Colour: Standardized text styles have been used while creating maps and
drawings. Features like Font Height, Font, Font Style, and Font Color to ensure consistency
throughout the layers. The fonts have been designed to allow the reader to see what the feature
is, without overshadowing the image picture. The colors have been used (Table 2) on each object
class to be unique and stand out in an effective manner.
Metadata
Metadata allows the user to realize both limitations on an object but also change any key
features which are not yet standardized. Metadata must accompany all published or submitted
drawings/maps. Listed here are the required metadata fields (Table 3).

Once the drawing has been completed, it is important to ensure that it is cleaned properly before
the final copy is presented. There is a series of steps using drawing clean up wizard window which
are need to be followed so that proper identification of any errors can be identified. When
choosing the proper clean-up methods, it is important to note what each method does so that
the proper method is chosen. Not all errors can be found using this procedure so it is important
that the user be careful in reviewing the drawing to properly identify any.
Listed below are these steps and an example of the drawing clean up wizard window.
1. Open the drawing clean-up dialog wizard from the ribbon menu
2. Select the layer that is needed to be checked for errors
3. A variety of errors to be checked for will be displayed. Choose the errors individually that
need to be checked
4. Choose the interactive option under the options menu to manually interact with the
errors found
5. The clean-up methods box will appear, use the default method to modify the original
objects and click finish
6. If errors are found, the drawing clean-up dialog box will appear. Select the object and
choose fix all
7. Repeat steps as many times as necessary for each layer
