Gender Inequality

All men are created equal. Is that so? How are we supposed to live in a world where one is greater

than the other. How can we live where women are discriminated and abused? If so, why does this

problem persist yet we happen to live in a nation where we our rights have been liberated not so long ago?

Before I address these concerns that our nation has long before held, I must say that I am proud to be

called upon on the behalf all women, children, and previous generations of civil right activist that has

granted us our privileges today. As of today where these fellow women stand, I cannot stress how society

has looked down upon these great humans. They have brought inspiration and had the courage to fight for

their rights and bring radical social changes upon this nation. If this supposed freedom is granted to every

single human being, then why must there be gender inequality? This obstacle that every woman

experience on a daily basis is what prevents them from creating these invisible bonds that reunite

humanity as one.

This society has placed women in a position where they are empowered by men. The

attractiveness of a woman determines their overall standpoint in society. Men are judgemental and seem

to treat others based on how they look rather than their personal attributes. In the article, Why Most

Women Will Never Become CEO, Gene Marks talks about harassment: I dont see guys patting their

secretaries on the backside or calling them honey or darling. Women are held to a much higher

standard in society and so they have to work hard getting ready just so that they could be accepted. This

society has stripped women of their dignity and has harassed them based on their attractiveness. Sexism in

the workplace environment is a serious issue for female employees yet men still judge on how their

female co-workers look, ugly, fat or skinny. Are we all not the same? They have to work hard every day

just to obtain the same wage and criticizing them is only making their day worse. Why must men

scrutinize how another human being looks? Male employees are arrogant in that they find harassing

another female is fun whenever they are around a group of their co-workers. Yet when a woman makes an

immature comment, she is immediately looked down upon and is considered disrespectful. In a

workplace, it is said that one in three women are harassed according to a survey by Alanna Vagianos.

This makes women prone to sexual abuse, trafficking, and harassment.

Another obstacle that women face in society is that they are discriminated. Women are paid less,

have fewer job opportunities, and are not recognized. According to Payscale, the statistics in 2016 showed

that women make 23.7 percent less money than men do despite having equal positions. When applying

for a job, the female applicant will have a lower chance of being hired since they are inferior to men. It is

outrageous how women are poorly treated. Most women work twice as hard as men just so that they could

get the same recognition. The workplace discriminates women as it underestimates their potential. This is

also why most women dont play sports that men play since they are always discouraged from playing a

mens sport. In addition, women today are faced with such high social pressures and standards that men

build upon. The scrutiny in society today is why women cannot deal with the business world which places

women in traditional roles in present day society. Men still enforce the idea that without their financial

support, women cannot survive a day by themselves. This assumption is what keeps women from having

independence and their own decisions. Women are always seen as the stay at home mom and are

expected to nurture their child as it is a natural instinct that men build upon and support it. Some may

argue that women have developed the idea of nurturing the child as an evolutionary trait which is why

men still support the idea. However, times have changed. With advanced technology and the suitable

conditions that were not present long ago, women have grown over that concept. It is clear that women

have the potential to do any task that men can do yet over a long course of time, women are still not

recognized as strong and independent humans. This inequality is what prevents us from moving forward

and weighing us in the past. It is your mission to teach, to fight, and to inspire what lies ahead of each and

every one of you. The women as of today are the new start to this generation. The generation that will

lead women into the light of equality and inspire other future generations. So let's fight for our freedom

and liberate ourselves from this inequality. Once again, I am proud to be among a group strong

independent women so raise your raise your heads, open your eyes, and speak. Thank you.
