A Snug fit cabled beanie hat with a ribbed double cuff hem. A great essential for Men and Women and
super cute on kids. One size fits most and is easily adapted. This is a quick knit, worked on big needles
with chunky yarn. Jo x
Skills:
You will need to be able to work a basic rib, and a simple cable and be able to decrease stitches.
Materials:
I used 100% British Wool from Rowan in chunky weight in the natural shade of steel grey Suffolk
(undyed)
100g = 110m/120yds, I used approx. 120gms
Tension:
In stocking stitch using 7mm (US 10 -11) needles: 13sts x 18rows over 10 x 10cm (4 x 4in)
Dimensions:
Sizes to fit: Snug fit for Average Adult head and Slouchy fit for kids
Actual circumference (not stretched): 42cm/16 in
Actual height (as worn): 23cm/9in
Basic Abbreviations:
K =knit, P = Purl, RS = right side, WS = wrong side, Inc = increase sts, st(s) = stitch(es), Dec = decrease sts;
Rep = repeat ; Patt = pattern, Cont = continue; cbn = cable needle; dpn = double pointed needle
Special abbreviations:
Inc 1 st= Make a new stitch by picking up and knitting the horizontal bar between the current st and the
next st
C6b = cable 6sts to back, slip next 3sts to cbn and place at back of work, then k next 3sts on ndl then k
3sts from cbn
C6f = cable 6sts to front, slip next 3sts to cbn and place at front of work, then k next 3sts on ndl then k

Instructions
This beanie hat is worked in the round so no seams.
With 7mm DPNs (US 10 -11) or circular needles cast on 60sts and evenly distribute stitches between
needles, join in the round. I used 4 DPNs with 1 working needle ( 15sts per needle) If you work a little
loose Id recommend going down a needle size or two for a tighter rib.
Note the rib will be worked on the WS so when it is worn folded the RS is on the outside
Next round Inc: Continue in rib pattern and increase 12sts evenly across work until 72sts on needles.

Rounds 1-6 form cable pattern repeat, work 27 rows total (or as required) and while continuing with
pattern decrease for crown as follows:
Round 28: (k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k13) rep to end 68sts
Round 29: (P2tog, p1, k1, k13) rep to end 64sts
Round 30: (k2tog, p1, k13) rep to end 60sts
Round 31: (k2tog) rep to end 30sts
Round 32: (k2tog) rep to end 15sts
Designers tip:
Try the hat on as you work, and add or decrease rows depending on your personal preference.
Finishing
Block hat according to ball band.
