7.1.1 Set Support Option

The user can select various additional options for a creating support according to the
support installation circumstances.

Support Dimension Preview dimensions in the 3D graphical window when

creating a support.

Ancillary Information Preview ancillary information such as type and material in

Profile Pad Add a profile pad automatically when attaching a support at

PLAN or Surface. If a pad is to be fixed on a sloped
element, for example camber, the suitable angle and size
are applied according to the profile end direction. When the
profile area is lengthened due to profile cutting, a proper-
sized pad will be searched automatically. But if such pad
does not exist, a pad defined in original design rules will be
used. In case of installing on a stiffener that does not require
a profile pad, a leg pad is not created although this option is
checked. The user can add or delete profile pad in Modify
Tab manually.

Weld Mark Add a weld mark (SNOD). The user can add or delete weld
(SNOD) in Modify Tab manually.

Opposite Flange Change the direction of a support to the opposite (i.e. not
Direction from port to centre or from starboard to centre, but from
centre to port or from centre to starboard), when creating
a support on upper deck, for example to avoid rusting by
sea water. Also, in a special occasion, the user can do the
same manually (instead of checking this option) using
Direction in the Support Position Controller.

Orthogonal to Pipe This option is available and works when creating a support
on a sloped element, such as camber, panel, etc. It is also
applied to Cable tray and HVAC.

An orthogonal support can be created against a sloped

PIPE as well.

Note: In case of Pipe Support (J, K, L, N type), HVAC

Support (F, G, H type) and Cable tray Support (G, H
type), an support orthogonal to the model (Pipe,
HVAC, Cable tray) is created regardless of option.

Centre View on Support After creating support, move the view position of the screen
with the support positing as a centre.

Creation by Volume Create multiple ancillaries within the picked volume (i.e. to
[PSM] create several ancillaries between two picked pipelines, the
user does not have to pick every single pipeline between
them). When this option is not checked, the user can create
a support only against the selected pipe using EDG.

Sliding Pad (By Design If the ancillary type which owns a sliding pad is defined in
Rule / No Sliding Pad) design rules for a selected PIPE.
[PSM]

By Design Rule: The ancillary with sliding pad can be

created.

No Sliding Pad: The ancillary only (with no sliding pad) can

be created.

Multiple Tray Layer When selecting several models for creating Cable tray,
[CSM] Support is created as Multiple Layer Type. +Span Clearance
Check is carried out and Tolerance Check between multi-
selected cable trays is neglected.

7.1.2 Set Special Support

In the actual shipbuilding support design, there are various special supports which are not
covered by basic support types. There are two options for creating a special support;
Option 1. Appoint a Master support and append as a basic support type. In this case, a
created support type is added to Master as FRMW.
Option 2. Appoint a Master support and merge with an existing created support by
support or profile (SCTN) unit. Support component name and association information is
created or modified automatically.

Master Check whether to work in the Master mode or not. When this
function is checked, the text box is activated.

Select Master Click Select Master Support and pick a master support. The name
Support tag and the volume box of a picked support will be displayed in the
3D graphical window.

Include Support Include a picked support to a master support as FRMW with a new
name.

Include Profile Include a picked profile to a master support as FRWM with a new
name.

7.2 Select Subtype & Size

There are various main support types in each discipline and every main support type has
several sub support types. A subtype support is decided automatically according to
predefined design rules or can be changed manually by the user via support information.
These subtype supports consist of different profile types and connections (or joints)
according to the design environment and the user can add a new one easily to be fit for its
purpose if needed.

7.3 Select Reference Model

After selecting a support type, the user must select reference data, such as PIPE tube,
Cable tray, HVAC, HULL plate, PANE, SCTN, etc. in the 3D graphical window.
The user must pick two elements; an outfitting model and a valid hull or structure element.
The design rules of the discipline must be defined by the administrator in advance, and a
support will be installed on the hull or structure element.
The length of leg is determined based on the firstly selected panel; therefore, when creating
legs on two panels with different thickness, additional modifications are required, for
example extending the length of profile.
The installing direction and position of most support types are decided according to the EDG
picking result, and the user can preview supports in the 3D graphical window before
creating.

After picking a reference model to create a support, the ancillary direction will be decided as
the input value (i.e. +X (Forward), -X (After), +Y (Port), -Y (Starboard), +Z (Up) and -Z
(Down)). But in case of M and N-Types, the user should set this value in advance.
considering the support's direction before selecting the support type. And for the J-Type,
both are applicable. (i.e. the user can select the direction either before or after selecting the
support type for the J-Type and N-Type.)

7.4.2 Support Creation

The user can adjust position and dimensions of a support in the Support Creation window.
The selected values such as support subtype support, profile size, etc. decided by design
rules can be modified manually.

Support Name Display the support name at the storage ZONE automatically. The
user can set a different name temporarily.

Position Position Controller: The support position is displayed and available

Insert Ancillary: Install an ancillary with a selected option (Design Rules or

User Selection) either on a profile or independently. For a single
independent ancillary, a dummy type framework will be used.

Note: Special support type without support frame. (Dummy Support)

Normally an ancillary is created together with a framework; however, when

adding an ancillary onto a general steel element, not support profile, it can
be created without any framework. In this case, system internally creates a
dummy support (Using design template /PSM-TEMPLATE-X01/STRU)
automatically to store the association information for maintaining the
consistency with other supports.

To create a new ancillary without a framework, the user should select one
or multiple models and the profile (SCTN) as reference direction for the
ancillary. After selecting them, the Ancillary Position window will show up,
and the user can set the detailed position for the ancillary.

Align Profile to Ancillary (Move Profile)

In case of changing an ancillary position manually, there may be an overlap or a gap of the
ancillary between the tube and the span on a support. When selecting span profile and
ancillary, AOS application precisely moves span profile to the installation position.

Align Ancillary with Zigzag

Move and align created ancillaries on support in zigzag. If the space between pipes is so
tight that the gap of ancillaries such as ubolt, strap or clamp on a support does not fit, this
function is very useful. The user should input the offset value for zigzag alignment.

Note: The function of Align Ancillary with Zigzag is not applied to Rail Type STAUFF
CLAMP. If necessary, it can be moved through Model Editor, Modify > Move or

Modify Drawing Template

Specified strings control configurable texts on a drawing template. Such a configurable text
is wrapped by ?, such as ?piece_no?, and the keywords represent specified data in a
drawing using the Etext attribute of text primitive and the attribute SpPurp attribute of
TKPARA.
These two values should be the same for the specified data represented.

The evaluated result by TKPARA is represented by the text primitive; and the rule is
represented by TPValue of TKPARA. The user can easily modify attributes of text primitive.

Revision Information

A Outfitting Data

The next explanation is based on Pipe Support but also applies to Cable tray and HVAC.

A.1 Support Frame Templates (SITE)

Support frame templates are defined by the administrator and stored in the MASTER/PSM-
DESIGN database of AOS Project. There are 15 main support types and each main support
type has several different subtypes according to connection (joint) and profile types. All the
support frames which are usually used in the Marine support design are provided as a
sample.

Note: To create an ancillary without a support framework, the type XX can be used as a
dummy support to keep the consistency with other support types and to maintain its
association information.

Support Margin Value

Some support types can be adjusted the length of span profiles (SCTN) or leg profiles
(SCTN). If the user inputs the horizontal and vertical length at the :PSMExtension attribute
of the structure, a support is created by the input values.

Note: Margin Length for CSM-A01 and CSM-A02 type [CSM]

In case of CSM-A01 and CSM-A02 type, Margin value between cable tray and leg profile is
managed in the attribute :AOSExtension of Support Template. Refer to the following

The user can add or delete endcuts for support type templates if necessary. However, the
endcut created in the template only reflects existence and position of the endcut in the
support frame. The actual size of endcut is defined and reflected in design rule (Support
Type & Size).

A.2 Application Data (APPLDW)

The administrator should define design rules in advance before support creation. As the
administrator configures the rules, the application data, for example support name, support
area (design unit), ancillary selection, ancillary type, profile selection, support type & Size
and sliding pad material, etc., is created under the application data world level, /PSM-

B.1 Ancillary Catalogues

When creating a support, marine support design rules contain ancillary catalogues which
are generally used, for example UBOLT, STRAP, STAUFF, Plastic Clamp, Sliding pad, etc.
In case of UBOLT, STRAP, STAUFF ancillaries, they will be used as catalogue reference for
both ATTA and FIXING in the Design (in the Outfitting module). The bore size range can be
different according to their usage. Using the AOS Ancillary Spec Controller and AOS
Sliding Pad Spec. Controller, the user can easily generate the ancillary and sliding pad
specification database.

B.1.1 Points Sets

P-Points of AOS ancillary have been created with the minimum points required by AOS.
Those are:

P-Point Description
1 Arrive Point
2 Leave Point
3 Bottom of Pipe (BOP) -5mm (i.e. bottom of the ancillary geometry - 5mm)
9 BOP (Including geometry if required) (i.e. bottom of the ancillary geometry)

P1 and P2 are arriving and leave points along the centre line of the pipe.

Note: The AOS default p-points provided cannot be deleted or modified, but additional -
points can be created if required.

B.1.2 Ancillary Type

There are many types of clamps with (or without) sliding pad which are frequently used in
the marine support design.
AOS catalogue DB provides various ancillaries as a sample, %aosdata%\AOS 12.1.SP4
Support Libraries.pdf file shows the location of p-point, parameter description, design
setting and parameter value of each ancillary type in detail.
When adding new ancillary, the user refer to the existing ancillary p-point, parameter and
attributes for consistency.

B.1.3 Ancillary Material & Description

Ancillary catalogue exist in various shape and sizes. They need each material code and
description according to material type of support design and thickness of profile flange
which will be installed.
For this, the user defines ancillary material list and sliding pad material which are needed for
support design. AOS automatically makes a description list using material list and catalogue
information for ancillary and sliding via AOS Ancillary Spec. Controller and AOS Sliding
Pad Spec. Controller.
