Compilationofstudentreportcardsisacollaborativeprocessbetweenteachers,systempersonnel
andtheschoolsadministrativeteam.Teachers,inconjunctionwiththeschoolprincipaland/or
viceprincipalwillcreatedetailedreportsthatprovidestudentsandparentswithmeaningful
information.
1. LearningSkillsandWorkHabits
ThehomeroomteacherwillcompletetheLearningSkillsandWorkHabitssection,with opportunity
forinputfrom,andcollaborationwith,itinerant/rotaryteacherswhereappropriate.Allsixlearning
skillsandworkhabitsaretobereportedonusingthelettersymbols:E,G,S,orN.
Commentsshouldfocusonthelearningskillsmostrelevanttothechild,i.e.thosethatstandoutas
obviousstrengthsorthosemostneedingimprovement,and/orthosethathavebeenafocusof
instructionduringtheterm.Atleastthreelearningskillsandworkhabitsshouldbereferencedin
thecommentsforboththeTerm1andTerm2reportcards.Commentsaretobestructured
accordingtothefollowingformat:
Identifyastrengthbasedononeormoreofthelearningskillsandworkhabits;
useinformationgatheredfromobservations,conversations,andstudentproductsto share
specificexamplesofwhatthestudenthasdonetodemonstratehis/herstrength;
identifyoneormoreofthelearningskillsandworkhabitsasanareaforimprovementand
basedonthisarea,commentonnextstepsbothfortheclassroomandathome.
2. DeterminingOverallGrades
Whendeterminingastudentsoveralllevelofachievementforaterm,theteacherwillgive
considerationtosufficientevidencegatheredoverthecourseofthetermineachofthefour
achievementchartcategorieswithemphasisonthemorerecentandmostconsistentlevelof
achievementasoutlinedbelow:

Oncetheteacherhasusedtheirtrackedstudentachievementdatatodetermineanoveralllevelof
achievementforeachcategory,theachievementchartmustbeconsultedasafinallens.The
overalllevelofachievementmustmatchthecorrespondingqualifierintheachievementchart.(i.e.
level1limited,level2some,level3considerable,level4thorough,highdegree)
Frequencyandlevelofassistancearenottobeusedtodetermineastudentslevelofachievement.
3. MeaningandUseofR
ThecodeRrepresentsachievementthatfallsbelowlevel1andisusedwhenreporting
studentachievementontheProvincialReportCardsinGrades1to8.Thissignalsthat
additionallearningisrequiredbeforethestudentbeginstoachievesuccessinmeetingthe
subject/gradeorcourseexpectations.Italsoindicatestheneedforthedevelopmentof
strategiestoaddressthestudentsspecificlearningneedsinordertosupporthisorher
successinlearning.
InGrades1to8,studentswithanIndividualEducationPlan[IEP]whorequiremodifiedor
alternativeexpectationsandbeginningEnglishlanguagelearnerswithmodified
expectationswouldveryrarelyreceiveanR.
ParentswillbeinformedwellbeforethereportingperiodifanRisplannedtobeused.
4. MeaningandUseofI
ForGrades1to10,thecodeImaybeusedwhentrackingand/oronastudentsreport
card,includingthefinalreportcard,toindicatethatinsufficientevidenceisavailableto
determinealettergradeorpercentagemark.ThecodeImaynotbeusedforGrades11
and12.
Forthereportcard,teacherswillusetheirprofessionaljudgementtodeterminewhenthe
useofIisappropriateandinthebestinterestsofthestudent.Forexample,teachersmay
finditappropriatetouseIwhenevidenceofastudentsachievementisinsufficient
becausethestudenthasenrolledintheschoolveryrecentlyorbecausetherewereissues
orextenuatingcircumstancesbeyondthestudentscontrol,suchasprotractedillness,that
affectedhisorherattendanceand/orabilitytoprovidesufficientevidenceofachievement
oftheoverallexpectations.Itmayalsobeappropriate,whendespiteallproactive
measuresandbestefforts,studentshaveincompleteassignmentsforevaluation.
5. SubjectSpecificReporting
Thechartonpage30oftheproceduredocumentprovidesaguidetospecificreporting
requirementsforeachsubject.

uselanguagethatparents/guardianswillunderstand;
provideparents/guardianswithpersonalized,clear,andmeaningfulfeedback;
helpparents/guardiansunderstandhowtheycansupporttheirchildrenathome.
