HEADMASTERS CORNER
Well done to all pupils for another super half term. I
congratulate all children up to Year 7 on completing
their exams and assessments during the past two
weeks and, with Common Entrance just a week or so
away, I wish Year 8 every success when they return
after the break.
I am able to announce the news that our Latin
teacher, Mrs Barbara Barron, will be retiring from
teaching at the end of this term. Mrs Barron has had
a wonderful career and I feel so very honoured to
have worked with her during the past four years,
we will, of course, be saying a more fitting farewell
in Speech Day. I can inform you that the post will
be filled by Mr Simon Sherwood who has taught
Classics at Blundells School and will be joining us
on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the autumn term.
In addition to Classics, Simon is a keen chorister,
organist and enjoys watching and umpiring cricket.
Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the
fantastic gala yesterday which saw many impressive
performances across the board. Thank you to all
the parents who came to watch and cheer on the
children, and also to Mrs Hinchliffe and the team for
all their hard work.
Like many of you I am looking forward to the FOTM
Ball this evening and in advance, I thank all those
involved for putting in the many hours of work to
ensure that it will be another successful FOTM event.

YEAR 3 GEOGRAPHY
Year 3 have been learning about the rainforest and this week tasted some food which grows there.
They tasted pineapple, papaya, mango, coconut water and chocolate. They have also made a
beautiful display showing the layers of the rainforest and used their creative skills to draw some of
the animals which live there.

SPORTSMAN AWARD
Anay Nair (Year 1) has been awarded the
U6 Sportsmanship Award for Rugby by
Ashley Down Old Boys RFC. Were very
CHOREOGRAPHY SUCCESS
proud of you Anay!!
Marie (Year 3) and Jeanne Vron (Year 6) took part
in a choreography competition organised by Sharon
Phillips' Dance School in Alveston on Sunday 21st.
They did a duet and won second place in their
category. Well done girls!

THEY SURVIVED!
Mr Jones and Mr Perez finished their
24 hours of non-stop exercising in
fine form, well done to both of them!!
A BIG THANK YOU to all of you after

Pop down to Bristol Zoo this half term to see our sponsored
dinosaur in this year's Dinomania event but watch out, you may
get a little wet! The event runs from 27th May through to 3rd
September.
Whilst youre there, why not say hello to the very friendly Denzel
the Dinosaur. Denzel will be joining us here at school in our
Family Fun Day on 17th June.

SWIM SQUAD
A huge well done to all the squad swimmers
who have attended so regularly, it really has
been good fun and worthwhile!
A polite reminder that after half term:
Senior squad returns to Tuesdays
Junior squad to Thursdays
During CE exam week there is no expectation
that any Year 8 will attend, however they are
welcome if they want to come along. Exams
start promptly so it may be better that Year 8
swimmers catch a few extra minutes revision
(or sleep) and have a good breakfast to fuel the
brain!
There will be no squad during Activities Week
(week commencing 19th June) as Year 5 will be
going to the Portishead Lido on the Tuesday of
that week, and Lower School have their gala on
the Thursday.
Squad, as always, finishes for the summer
during the penultimate week of term. There will
be no squad on 4th or 6th July.

Girls U12 Relay Team
The fastest 4 in school was won by Iona Campbell,
Jonathan Baguley, Jake Wakeling and Rachel Shutt
in 59.98s - a fabulous NSR which would have put
us 6th in the UK! Bearing in mind that there were
no diving starts, this is a phenomenal time and will
stand for many years to come. Well done!
I was incredibly proud of the new wave of swimmers
and grateful that Lily Edwards, Kaya Priove and
Poppy Newman could gain a win in a gala intended
for older students.
Dalis Jones, Ceredig Jones and Morgan Owen
demonstrated their super breaststroke prowess.
Isaac, James, Archie Symonds, Lara, Katie,
Carmen, Erin, Angus, Harry Mather, William Bate
and Archie West have all given me a holiday
headache in team selection for Severnside!
The Water Polo was a little rushed but Wycliffe
students matched TMS well and many commented
on the fun they had playing polo.
In summary, 5 school records and 100% PBs made
the afternoon worthwhile!

Years 3 - 8 have now achieved 95 English Schools Athletics Associations GOLD standards. We hit
105 Golds during the 2016 athletics season. Well done to all our athletes, a fabulous achievement!!

South Gloucestershire Schools Championship

Congratulations to Otis Walker, U13 Boys 800m, and Dalis Jones, U15 Girls 1500m, who both
became South Gloucestershire Schools Champions after winning their races on Wednesday. Their
victories qualify them for the Avon Schools Championships next month. Both pupils equalled their
PBs, 2m 31s and 4m 50s respectively.
