Title
Solving Problems with Equations, Ordered Pairs, and Graphs

Standard(s) of
Learning 8.14- The student will make connections between any two representations
(tables, graphs, words, and rules) of a given relationship
8.15 The student will

a) solve multistep linear equations in one variable with the variable

on one and two sides of the equation;
b) solve two-step linear inequalities and graph the results on a
number line; and
c) identify properties of operations used to solve an equation.
8.16 The student will graph a linear equation in two variables.

Key Vocabulary/
Concepts -Concept: Learn how to solve algebra questions by using equations, ordered
pairs, and graphs
Equation- Statement in which the value for y is given by manipulation of x or
vice-versa
x-axis- The horizontal axis on a coordinate-plane
y-axis- The vertical axis on a coordinate-plane
x-value- The line on the x-axis on which a point lies
y-value- The line on the y-axis on which a point lies
Ordered Pairs- The given x and y-values for a point in (x,y) format
Graphs- A coordinate-plane with an x and y-axis used to display equations and
ordered pairs

Materials
-SMART Board
-Note taking sheets (25)

REFLECTION
(TO BE COMPLETED I was teaching the lesson near the end of my time in the classroom for the
AFTER YOU TEACH)
day so I felt rushed. Additionally, I did not have a lot of time to prepare for the
lesson so I could not teach the material as well as I could have. Also, I should
have been confident in my problem-solving capabilities rather than relying on
the answer sheet.
