English teacher. Students will receive a test grade for this test. Our goal is to provide our students the experience of
sharing and discussing a common text while also providing the opportunity to read books that most interest them. In
an effort to promote reading as a pleasurable experience, we encourage family members to participate. Hopefully,
this approach will encourage lifelong pleasure reading as well as intellectual growth. An extensive list of books has
been chosen for their readability and for their relevance to teens and teen issues. Be aware that some may confront
controversial issues, explore adult situations, and contain strong language. Titles marked with a symbol may contain
subject matter and language that may not be suitable for sensitive readers. See the code at the end of the list of titles.
We encourage you to choose your book with your parents’ input. All students are asked to read one book
completely before the first day of school. As you read you may want to do one or all of the following so that you will
be prepared for questions in the fall. Take notes. Outline each chapter. Underline important passages. Do whatever
works best for you, but read and enjoy!
