15 BOOK SYNOPSISThe Seven Habits of Highly Effective
People
by Stephen Covey

One of the best all-around self-help

manuals. Its worthwhile for practically
anyone, but probably most helpful for people
who feel they are drifting, floundering, or
otherwise not meeting their personal or
career goals. Covey shows how to use your
core values to build solid habits of character that, in
turn, bring personal and business success. Covey
went on to develop a series of Seven Habits books,
tapes, seminars, appointment calendars, etc. They
may all be o.k., but this book - which spent more than
200 weeks on the best-seller list - is where he made
his name.

What Is The Magic Life About?

The Magic Life is a metaphysical mystery. On one hand it's the story of a man who
dreamt of becoming a magician, but instead became an accountant a man who
yearned for one particular woman, but never quite had the courage to tell her so. On
the other, it's the story of an ordinary young man who learns far more about life, love,
and death, than he ever dreamed possible.

The Story:

There is an ancient Buddhist proverb that states, "When the student is ready, the
teacher will appear."

James Carpenter plays by the rules. He attended a good college, worked hard and
eventually became a successful accountant. Outwardly, he is a typical American
success story. "Why?" he asks, "If I am doing so well ... am I unhappy with work,
unfulfilled in love, and just bored with life?"

His "teacher" is about to materialize. Without realizing it, James is living his life
trapped in a strait jacket. After a disturbing nightmare in which he finds himself
strapped in a "strait jacket", he coincidentally meets a mysterious street magician
performing the "strait jacket" escape. This magician, Maximillion, pulls James out of
the crowd and challenges him to a simple test. If he passes, his reward will be nothing
less than the secrets to the magic life. Unbeknownst to James, this test will shake his
very faith in reality as Max turns out to be no ordinary magician.

The plot (both mystery and love story) is full of insights into the meaning of
happiness, the power of coincidence, and the wonders of synchronicity. It is about
taking risks and following your dreams. In a simple, compelling way, THE MAGIC
LIFE teaches the reader to respect the power of coincidence and acknowledge the
importance of life's illusions, challenging us to live life to its fullest.

The 9 Ways of Working

by Michael Goldberg

This book uses the Enneagram - a personality typing system based

on ancient philosophical traditions - to understand the different ways
in which people of differing personality types think about and handle
issues at work. The book teaches you to recognize both your own
type and the types of others you work with, and then how to
handle colleagues, bosses and subordinates based on your and their
type-based styles of behavior-on-the-job. The Enneagram has no
formal standing as a theory in scientific psychology, but nonetheless
seems to have a piece of the truth. Many people have found this book
remarkably useful in its application to interpersonal problems in the workplace.

Like the one-time bestseller Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The

Alchemist presents a simple fable, based on simple truths and places it in a
highly unique situation. And though we may sniff a bestselling formula, it is
certainly not a new one: even the ancient tribal storytellers knew that this is
the most successful method of entertaining an audience while slipping in a
lesson or two. Brazilian storyteller Paulo Coehlo introduces Santiago, an
Andalusian shepherd boy who one night dreams of a distant treasure in the
Egyptian pyramids. And so he's off: leaving Spain to literally follow his
dream.

Along the way he meets many spiritual messengers, who come in

unassuming forms such as a camel driver and a well-read Englishman. In
one of the Englishman's books, Santiago first learns about the alchemists--
men who believed that if a metal were heated for many years, it would free
itself of all its individual properties, and what was left would be the "Soul of
the World." Of course he does eventually meet an alchemist, and the
ensuing student-teacher relationship clarifies much of the boy's misguided
agenda, while also emboldening him to stay true to his dreams. "My heart is
afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy confides to the alchemist one night
as they look up at a moonless night.

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself,"
the alchemist replies. "And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in
search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's
encounter with God and with eternity." --Gail Hudson --This text refers to
the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly

This inspirational fable by Brazilian author and translator Coelho has been a
runaway bestseller throughout Latin America and seems poised to achieve
the same prominence here. The charming tale of Santiago, a shepherd boy,
who dreams of seeing the world, is compelling in its own right, but gains
resonance through the many lessons Santiago learns during his adventures.
He journeys from Spain to Morocco in search of worldly success, and
eventually to Egypt, where a fateful encounter with an alchemist brings him
at last to self-understanding and spiritual enlightenment. The story has the
comic charm, dramatic tension and psychological intensity of a fairy tale, but
it's full of specific wisdom as well, about becoming self-empowered,
overcoming depression, and believing in dreams. The cumulative effect is
like hearing a wonderful bedtime story from an inspirational psychiatrist.
Comparisons to The Little Prince are appropriate; this is a sweetly exotic tale
for young and old alike. 50,000 first printing; $50,000 ad/promo.

the Hardcover edition.
More parable than novel, "The Alchemist" uses the story of young shepherd
Santiago's search for his Personal Legend as an allegory for everyman's struggle to
break from the comfortable confines of conformity and pursue his life dreams.
Along the way, of course, our young everyman is beset by all manner of setbacks,
testing his resolve and forcing him to become attuned to the Soul of the World in
order to survive. By paying attention to the details in the world around him, which
serve as omens guiding him towards his goal, young Santiago becomes an
alchemist in his own right, spinning unfavorable circumstances into riches.

Aside from the ubiquitous theme about the power of perseverance, my favorite part
of the book was its glorification of simplicity. Like the pared-down manner in which
the story is presented, Santiago's rare ability to get in touch with the Soul of the
World comes not from the procedures described in arcane tomes pursued by
traditional alchemists, but rather from a simple honesty and observance of the
workings of the world. While the lack of character or plot complexity precludes this
minimalist work from being considered a great novel, it will be a satisfying read for
those seeking inspiration of the purest sort.

Wow!!! I just got done reading "The Greatest Miracle in the World", and I
feel speechless - not sure I can convey the beauty & wonder of this story.
Because of this, I will just say that this is an amazing little book - and I
highly recommend it to EVERYONE!!!

What is it about? Well, it's about many things, but the most important point
I guess is that we've all forgotten just how special we are - we've begun to
just settle, believing that we can't create, or don't deserve, a better life. But
through this amazing story, we can all begin to see that we can have a
wonderful life, and that we do, in fact, deserve it!

At the end, you will find a message that can help you begin your journey to
a better, more fulfilling life - it includes just 4 points to remember & ponder.
Although I don't want to "spill the beans" re: what they are, suffice it to say
that they will help you to open your eyes & realize just how special YOU
really are, as well as all you have to offer.

I only wish everyone could read this book - how different our world might
become...

A better way to live Og Mandino

This book talks about how to benefit most from the 17 rules to live by. It
reminds people of bad habits that weaken our chance to succeed in life
where each of the rules learnt will help us to get rid of a bad habit by
replacing it with a good one which is the key to a better life.

The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work

by John M. Gottman, Ph.D.

Gottman , one of the leading researchers of marriage, uses

this book to present the for-the-general-public version of the
same material he teaches therapists and counselors in
professional seminars. He discusses what specific behaviors
make marriages succeed, what makes them fail, and what
couples can do to make their own marriage more satisfying. Lots
of exercises and self-assessment tools. Many marriage manuals
have useful advice; this one is probably the most grounded in
research, and - if you do the work - the most valuable.

Final Gifts: Understanding the special awareness, needs and

communications of the dying.
by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Helley

Two hospice nurses wrote this book for people who are living with, or
caring for someone who is dying. They discuss what dying is like for
the person who is dying, and what that person needs from family and
loved ones, in order to die peacefully and with completion. When a
loved one is dying, the experience takes those closest to him or her
right to the edge. This book helps the reader go there and better
assist the dying person.

The Greatest Miracle in the World (Mass Market Paperback)

Mandino has contributed another masterpiece to the success/motivation

literature. A quote attributed to Seneca helps sum up this book's theme,
"soil, no matter how rich, could not be productive without cultivation and
neither could our minds." This book provides the proper nourishment for the
productive mind. The familiar aphorism "you are what you think" is
developed in compelling fashion. Mandino is skilled in maintaining a bit of
mystery as he expands upon principles familiar to readers of this genre. He
holds his readers captive by the storytelling talent few possess to the degree
of a few masters. Pathos is built by the characters and the situations painted
in the mind's eye as the plot develops. There are some powerful insights that
will motivate any reader with an open mind.

The God Memorandum was introduced to me by Dr. Tom Costa, Pastor of

Religious Science Church of the Desert ... near Palm Springs, California when
it was incorporated into one of his many superb humorous sermons. The
story itself is intriguing and I found that I couldn't put it down. After reading
the "God Memorandum" chapter, I decided to do the 100 days as instructed.
It wasn't easy but with each day I found it brought new positive thinking
leading to new and positive decision making which created new positive
experiences. It is now over a year since my 100 days. I can attest to a
wonderfully changed life. A life that seems to continue to grow in love.
Personally, I feel everyone should have the experience of this marvelous
little book.

THINK & GROW RICH NAPOLEON HILL

.During our ten-year association, I learned the missing number to my
combination for worldwide successful achievement. The Master Mind
Principle: two or more persons working together in complete harmony
toward a mutual goal or goals...Napoleon Hill's philosophy teaches you what
you were never taught. Specifically: How to Recognize, Relate, Assimilate
and Apply principles whereby you can achieve any goal whatsoever that
doesn't violate Universal Law - the Law of God and the rights of your
fellowman... -- W. Clement Stone Chairman, Combined International
Corporation President, The Napoleon Hill Foundation

During the
past twenty-five years I have been blessed with more good fortune than any
individual deserves but I shudder to think where I'd be today, or what I'd be
doing if I had not been exposed to Napoleon Hill's philosophy. It changed my
life. -- Og Mandino, Author and Lecturer

I knew Napoleon Hill in
1922 when I was a student in Salem College in the town of my birth. Mr. Hill
came to our campus as the commencement speaker in that year. As I
listened to him, I heard something other than just the words he spoke, I felt
the substance - the wisdom - and the spirit of a man and his philosophy. Mr.
Hill said "the most powerful instrument we have in our hand is the power of
our mind." Napoleon Hill compiled this philosophy of American achievement
for the benefit of all people. I strongly commend this philosophy to you for
achievement and service in your chosen field. --Senator Jennings Randolph
