GABION WIRE

SNI 03-0090-1999

SCOPE

This standard specifies the dimensions of the gabion wire and the
requirements of the raw materials, quality requirements, sampling, test
methods, test pass conditions, packing and marking requirements of
the gabion wire.

SUMMARY

Gabion wire is a box made of mesh galvanized steel wire which in its
use filled the stones for erosion prevention mounted on the cliffs,
riverbanks, the process using the machine. The reference is SNI 03-
0090-1987 on the quality and test method of Gabion and Gabion Wire.

The visible properties of gabion wire should be sturdy, hexagonal

mesh form with double winding and a maximum distance of 40 mm
and should be symmetry. The winding must be tight, there is no
relation between the wire side and the wire mesh wound at least 3
times so that it can withstand the load from all directions.

The shape and size of the gabion wire is of shape 1, the size of the
mesh is 80 mm x 100 mm or 100 mm x 120 mm with diameter () wire
mesh 2.70 mm or 3.00 mm, side wire 3.40 mm or 4.00 mm, 2mm
wire binder. Box size tolerance (length, width and height) of 5%.

Gabion wire shape 2, the size of the mesh is 60 mm x 80 mm with

diameter () wire mesh 2 mm, side wire 2.70 mm and 2mm wire
binder. For the size of mesh 80 cm x 100 cm the diameter of wire
mesh 2.7 mm, side wire 3.40 mm and 2mm wire binder. Box size
tolerance (length, width and height) of 5%.

Notes :

The size of mesh commonly used in Indonesia is mesh 80 mm x

100 mm
Based on a letter from the Standardization and Accreditation
Center (Deperindag RI), May 26, 2013 No.220/SJ.7/2003, States
that ASTM A975-97 is not equivalent to SNI 03-0090-1999 and is
not applied in Indonesia because it has a difference in terms of
shape and dimensions of the size of gabion mesh.
