Business Card

and Pen Holder


Projects Machine Shop
Base
1. Cut and Face
A. Cut 6 by 1/4 brass bar stock to slightly more than 2 in
length.
B. Using a mill and a two-flute end-
mill, face off the rough sides caused
by the drop saw.

2. Drill and counter-bore


A. Using a 0.2 diameter edge finder locate the upper left
corner as (0,0).
B. Using a mill, drill and counter-bore in the position
shown below.
Rear Card Support
1. Cut and Face
A. Cut 4 by 1/4 brass bar stock to slightly more than
2 in length.
B. Using a mill and a two-flute end- mill, face off the
rough sides caused by the band saw.

2. Drill and Tap


A. Position and clamp the piece in the mill such that the
face showing is 1/4 by 4.
B. Using a 0.2 diameter edge finder, locate the upper
left corner as (0,0).
C. Drill and tap locations shown below.
Front Card Support
1. Cut and Face
A. Cut 4 by 1/4 brass bar stock to slightly more than
1 1/4 in length.
B. Using a mill and a two-flute end- mill, face off the
rough sides caused by the band saw.

2. Drill and Tap


A. Position and clamp the piece in the mill such that the
face showing is 1/4 by 4.
B. Using a 0.2 diameter edge finder, locate the upper
left corner as (0,0).
C. Drill and tap locations shown below.

3. CNC Front Face


A. Have someone from the Machine Shop engrave Purdue
Logo into the front face of your cardholder.
Pen Holder
1. Cut and Face
A. Cut 5/8 brass round stock to slightly more than 2
long
B. Using the lathe face off one end
C. Using a scribe and die, make marks at 1/2 and 1
from one end.
D. Using the lathe cut a 13-degree angle from scribe
mark to scribe mark.
Note: feed the cutter at a slow consistent speed
2. Drill and Tap
A. Using the lathe drill the cup of the penholder
a. Begin drilling with a #3 center drill deep
b. Continue drilling with #36 drill bit completely
through part
c. Continue drilling with 5/16 drill bit 1 deep
d. Drill with progressively larger bits until your
reach size W, where W is equal to the diameter
of the pen you intend to use with the holder.
Note: You must bring your own pen
B. Tap the base of the pen-holder as shown to the left.
