Approved Rules of Contests

Individual Writing Contests

1. Eligibility. Any bonafide college student is eligible to participate in


the press conference. Certification from the school registrar
(with dry seal) is required upon registration. Each contestant
shall bring a duly authenticated student identification card for AY
2015-2016. A medical certificate from the school physician
should also be presented upon registration. The registration
fee for the three-day press conference is Php 4,250.00 per
participant. Only cash payment will be accepted. Please deposit
payment to the following on or before January 20, 2016:

2. Contestants may participate in not more than three (3) contests.

3. Participation in the individual writing contest is exclusive to the top 5


regional winners as certified by the report from the Regional
Association Presidents.

4. There shall be 12 contested categories in English and Filipino. These


are the following: newswriting, editorial writing, sports writing,
feature writing, poetry writing, development communication writing,
comic strip drawing, copyreading/headline writing, column writing,
editorial cartooning, photojournalism and literary graphics
illustration. Layouting, which is now a regular contest, shall follow
the following guidelines:

a. Each contestant must bring a laptop or desktop computer with


CD/DVD writer or USB port. The laptop/desktop computer
must have Adobe Photoshop and In-Design of any version.

b. Materials (text, photos, graphics, masthead, editorial box)


shall be provided by the lecturer/judge either in Filipino or
English.
c. In two and a half (2 ) hours, including the lecture, each
contestant shall make a layout of a 4-page newsletter with
9x12 sized paper that shall contain news, opinion, feature
and sports sections.

d. Contestants are not allowed to add or remove any of the


materials provided by the judge in the final layout.

e. Final layout must be saved in .pdf format and must also be


saved in a blank cd/dvd or flash drive for submission to the
proctor for judging. Contestants must bring their own cd/dvd
or flashdrive.

f. Placing of any marks that shall identify the school is not be


allowed. Entries with marks shall be automatically
disqualified.

5. Contestants in Editorial Cartooning shall use charcoal and/or pencil


only. A 1/8-illustration board shall be used for the competition.
Contestants shall bring their illustration board.

6. Use of ink in Comic Strip Drawing is allowed. Comics drawing


should be in 4 boxes. 1/8-illustration board shall used for the
competition. Contestants shall bring their illustration board.

7. For Literary Graphics Illustration, contestants are to interpret a


poem or any prose to be given by the lecturer/judge in a 1/8-
illustration board. Any medium with a maximum of six (6) colors is
allowed. Contestants shall bring their illustration board.

8. Writing style in opinion writing shall be informal, with commentary


breaks on national or developmental issues.

9. Photojournalism contestants shall use digital SLR cameras,


however, printing cost for twelve (12) pictures shall be shouldered
by the contestants. Contestants shall bring their -illustration
board.

10. Top 10 shall be announced winners. All shall receive medals and
certificates of recognition, while certificates of merit shall be
awarded to the contestants adviser.

Note: Dress code shall be strictly observed. No contestants shall be


allowed inside the contest rooms in house clothes. Advisers are
not exempted from this house rule.

Group Competitions:

1. School papers/publications published within the present academic


year (June 2015 December 2015) shall be considered entries to
the group competitions.

2. There shall be 5 brackets: MAGAZINE, NEWSLETTER, TABLOID,


BROADSHEET and LITERARY FOLIO.
3. Schools can enter their publications in ANY or ALL bracket
categories provided there is no duplication of the same bracket type
as entry.

4. Standard sizes of Print Publications shall be observed (stated


below). Discretion of the organizing committee shall be respected in
determining acceptance of entries deviating from the following
sizes:

Magazine (8.5 x 11.5 or 9x12, minimum of 24 pages)


Best Newsletter (8.5 x 11.5 or 9x12, minimum of 12 pages
Best Literary Folio (any size, minimum of 40 pages)
Broadsheet (13/13.5 x 22, minimum of 12 pages)
Tabloid (12 x 18 , minimum of 12 pages)

5. Mimeographed and computer printed papers or publications shall


not be allowed for competition. Only offset printed publications shall
be accepted for the competitions.

6. Eight (8) copies are required in each bracket for the competition.

7. Top 10 shall be announced winners, ALL shall receive trophies and


certificates of recognition.

8. All group entries should be received on or before January 22, 2016


by the 15th LHEPC Secretariat. Please send your entries to:

9. Entries received after the specified date shall be disqualified.

10. Failure to comply with all these requirements shall disqualify the
paper from the contests.

13. Regional colors: Ilocos (Yellow), Cagayan (Orange), Central Luzon


(Violet), CALABARZON (Red), MIMAROPA (Pink), BICOL (Blue),
Cordillera (Green). Regional shirts shall be worn during the opening
program on February 4.

Note: Participants with special food requirements should


coordinate with the Secretariat immediately upon registration. First
meal will be lunch of February 4 and last meal will be lunch of February
6. There will be no snacks, only principal meals.
