Dont Forget! Publishing Party!
On Thursday, June 1st we will have a little Publishing Party where the kiddos will
present their final product from the PBL unit. This will happen during their normally
scheduled English period. You are all welcome to come and hear them read their
stories!
Odile: 8:30-9:30
Hamza: 10:30-11:15
Patricia: 1:00-1:45
Alberto: 2:45-3:30

We Need:
If you have any sturdy paper grocery bags, particularly the ones with handles, please
send them to school!

End of Year Business & Reading Levels:

If your child will be missing any days for the rest of the year, please let me know in
advance. This is especially essential if they will not be here on the last day of school!
Your childs report card will include their End of Year reading level. If your child
reached level L on a previous assessment and you notice that their level is still listed
as L, this is not a mistake. Since L is an advanced 2nd grade level, some of the
comprehension questions are beyond the scope of skill currently possessed by most
of our 1st graders. The questions ask them to do things like compare and contrast,
2

which these students have simply not learned yet. So, please understand that a
static score on this assessment does not mean that your child has not made
progress, but rather that portions of the assessment at that level are simply too
advanced for their current skill set.

Reminders & Summer Info:

Some parents are asking about summer homework and tutoring, so I am including
information below on both topics.
o Summer Homework
A summer homework packet will be sent home on the last day of
school. It is totally optional, and any student who completes it can
bring it back to me at the beginning of next school year for a prize.
o Summer Tutoring
I will be offering English tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays
throughout the summer, with July off. If you are interested, please let
me know and I will be happy to send you more information. Tutoring
is also available for siblings, especially those who will be entering 1st
grade next year. I generally use the Lowry Library, but I can also come
to your home if you live close to school.
