This mutual agreement represents the understanding between The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars
(“TWC”) (the sponsoring institution), having its principal place of business at 1333 16th Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20036-2205,
_____________________________________ the (“Internship Site”) and______________________________________ the
(“Intern”) to cooperate in on-the-job training for the Intern participating in The Washington Center’s academic internship program.

WHEREAS, TWC, the Internship Site and the Intern recognize the need and benefits of providing educational and professional
training to interns; NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of above-mentioned goals, the parties agree as follows:

1.0  Intern Agreement


The “Intern” agrees to:
• Work 32–36 hours per week, depending on TWC program enrollment, for the duration of this agreement in exchange for academic
credit from his/her institution;
• Be responsible for his/her assigned work schedule and to report to the Internship Site at the agreed upon time(s);
• Coordinate with the Internship Site any and all travel arrangements necessary in carrying out his/her duties;
• Learn and follow all Internship Site policies and procedures regarding dress code, professional, legal and ethical behavior, emergency
preparedness, etc. as set forth by the Internship Site;
• Seek assistance in understanding Internship Site policies and procedures from the Internship Supervisor when necessary;
• Share his/her Individual Development Plan (IDP) with Internship Supervisor;
• Inform in a timely and reasonable manner, the Internship Site and/or TWC of any problems that might occur, including concerns
regarding lack of substantive work assignments;
• Supply forms/evaluations to the Internship Site and follow up to ensure timely submission to TWC;
• Assist in arranging all necessary TWC Program Advisor site visits (minimum of one);
• Ensure that the Internship Site is informed in a timely manner of mandatory TWC events, necessary to ensure the Intern receives all
available credit.

2.0  Internship Site Agreement


The “Internship Site” agrees to:
• Comply with all state and federal labor laws;
• Provide the Intern with a schedule comprised of no less than 80% substantive work;
• Ensure that the Intern reports to work for 32-36 hours per week, depending on TWC program enrollment;
• Provide the Intern with information regarding the Internship Site policies and procedures regarding dress code, professional, legal
and ethical behavior, emergency preparedness, etc. and be available to respond to any questions the Intern may have;
• Provide the Intern with an orientation to the office and the Intern’s position in addition to training the Intern on the use of
office equipment;
• Provide the Intern with ample instructions for completing projects and all appropriate feedback thereon;
• Provide the Intern with a desk and computer and other necessary tools in order to effectively complete internship responsibilities;
• Review and sign the Intern’s final Individual Developement Plan (IDP) by the stated due date;
• Complete the Intern’s mid-term and final evaluations by the stated due dates;
• Allow flexibility in the intern’s workflow to avoid scheduling conflicts with mandatory TWC academic events.
• Notify TWC in a timely and reasonable manner if any problems arise.
• Participate in a minimum of one site visit of the Intern’s performance and conduct additional meetings if requested;
• Work with the Intern to establish and implement a work plan in accordance with the Intern’s Individual Development Plan and that
is in alignment with the Internship Site’s mission and needs;
• Allow flexibility to avoid scheduling conflicts with mandatory TWC events; and notify the Intern’s TWC Program Advisor in a
timely and reasonable manner if any problems arise, particularly those that might result in the dismissal/termination of the Intern.

3.0  TWC Agreement


TWC agrees to:
• Monitor the internship for quality assurance as it relates to both the Intern and the Internship Site;
• Ensure that at least 80% of the Intern’s time is spent on substantive projects;
• Conduct at least one site visit to review the Intern’s performance and the quality of the internship;
• Assist the Intern and the Internship Site, in a timely manner, in resolving any problems that might arise during the course of
the internship;
• Provide all necessary evaluation forms to the Intern;
• Notify and consult with the Internship Site in a timely and reasonable manner regarding the possible dismissal of the Intern
from TWC;
• Advise the Intern in the development and implementation of the Individual Development Plan (IDP);
• Conduct individualized evaluation of the Intern’s academic, professional, civic, and personal growth;
• Advise and mentor the Intern in further development of skills with regards to the three pillars of TWC: Civic Engagement,
Professional Achievement, and Leadership;
• Explain and enforce TWC policies and procedures as necessary.

4.0  Contract Agreement
