MARK BOWDEN | COMMUNICATION EXPERT | PERFORMANCE TRAINER
Bowden received a university degree in performance in the UK, and studied the gesture-control methods of
Jacques Lecoqs Laboratory of Movement in Paris. He then went on to work with leading practitioners of
movement psychology, building upon the influence techniques of Dr. Milton Erickson. Bowden is on the
faculty of the International Masters of Health Leadership at McGill University, and on the faculty as the business
presentation trainer for The Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA, ranked #1 in the world by The Economist.

Team the Miami HEAT. She is also responsible for organizing the largest mass meditation in Fort

Mendell is the founder and CEO of Shatterproof. Mendell founded Shatterproof to spare others the
tragedy his family suffered with the death of his son Brian, who lost his battle with addiction in 2011.
Mendell is the founder and former CEO of HEI Hotels & Resorts and the former president of Starwood
Lodging Trust. A Cornell (79) and Wharton grad, Mendell went on to co-founded HEIs predecessor
in 1985, which became one of the fastest-growing hotel investment firms in the United States. In 1997,
HEI sold a majority of its hotels to Starwood Lodging and Trust where Gary was named president
and elected to the Starwood Board of Trustees. Gary resigned from his position in 1998 to pursue
entrepreneurial activities and has since raised two discretionary private equity funds with some of
the nations university endowments, a $275 million fund in 2004 and a $425 million fund in 2006.

TIM KREIDER | ESSAYIST & CARTOONIST


Tim Kreider is an essayist and cartoonist. His most recent book is We Learn Nothing (Simon &
Schuster). He has contributed to The New York Times, The New Yorkers Page-Turner blog, al
Jazeera, the Mens Journal, nerve.com, The Comics Journal, and Film Quarterly. His cartoons have
been collected in three books by Fantagraphics. His cartoon, The PainWhen Will It End? ran
for twelve years in the Baltimore City Paper and other alternative weeklies, and is archived at the
paincomics.com. Tim was born and educated in Baltimore, MD. He lives in New York City and an
Undisclosed Location on the Chesapeake Bay. He had the same cat for nineteen years.

JEFF SPECK | URBANIST


Jeff Speck is a city planner and urban designer who, through writing, lectures, and built work,
advocates internationally for more walkable cities. As Director of Design at the National Endowment
for the Arts from 2003 through 2007, he oversaw the Mayors Institute on City Design and created
the Governors Institute on Community Design. Prior to this, he spent ten years as Director of Town
Planning at Duany Plater-Zyberk and Co., where he led or managed more than forty of the firms
projects. He is the co-author of Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American
Dream as well as The Smart Growth Manual. His recent book, Walkable City: How Downtown Can
ave America, One Step at a Time was called timely and important, a delightful, insightful, irreverent
work and was the best-selling planning/design title of 2013 - 2015.

JAMES EHRLICH | FOUNDER OF REGEN VILLAGES


ReGen Villages, a UN Sustainability Brief co-authored by James Ehrlich, on the future of tech-integrated
real estate development in the built environment that power and feed self-reliant families. He is also a
Senior Technologist at Stanford University, Senior Fellow at Opus Novum consortium at NASA Ames
and an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Stanford Peace Innovation Lab at the Center for Design
Research. For nearly a decade, Mr. Ehrlich executive produced an award-winning national public
broadcasting series based on case studies of organic and bio-dynamic family farms, that at its apex
reached over 35-million homes each week, and is also the co-author of a best-selling companion book
on Hachette, Organic Living THG (2007).

IGOR VAN GEMERT | FOUNDER & CEO, SIM-CI


Four years ago he started to raise awareness on cyber security within his company Alliander and
predicted how the growing complexity of critical infrastructures correlates with their resilience.
He is responsible for boosting innovation at Liandon Energy Consultancy Group, the engineering
department of Alliander and is advisor to the European Commission on cyber security legislation
within the critical infrastructure domain. SIM-CI uses proprietary AI technology to teach the world
how to build resilient cities with smarter city design.
