En un principio se colocaba un farolito en cada casa, pero en los ltimos aos
los habitantes han tomado la tradicin de crear sofisticados faroles que
iluminan completamente la ciudad de Ahuachapn y Concepcin de Ataco.
"Se comenzaron a usar farolitos, hechos con pencas de izote. Se elaboraban
amarrando las hojas de la planta hacia arriba, retirando el retoo ms tierno y
colocando en ese lugar una candela. Tambin utilizaban ramas de pascua
blanca, dndole una evolucin a los farolitos de vara de carrizo; luego
comenzaban a tomar la forma que tienen en la actualidad. Los materiales
bsicos que se necesitan para fabricar un farolito hoy son: reglas de madera,
clavos, papel celofn, almidn, velas de cera y alambre para colgar. Adems se
ha comenzado a probar la cscara de la vara de Brasil, ya que es maleable y
con ella pueden hacerse otras figuras, como estrellas, muecas, peces, faroles
redondos, entre otras. Permite ms la creatividad de los participantes."
Day Farolitos
The Farolitos Day is a traditional Catholic festival held each September 7. Has
over 150 years and is originally from Ahuachapn (city) and declared Intangible
Cultural Heritage by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, its origin is
disputed since this holiday is celebrated in the town of Concepcion de Ataco on

Description
