Author) Pete Mecca was the person who took this image and AJ Perrone was the person
who gave the speech.
Place and Time) Walk of Heroes War Memorial in Rockdale County on October 11th,
2014.
Prior Knowledge) I know that there were men specially trained to go into the tunnels.
Audience) Other veterans, historians, and citizens of the U.S.
Reason) He wanted to pay tribute to the men that he served with in the war.
The Main Idea) The war memorial Traveling Wall isnt just any other object, it serves
with the purpose to honor those who died for our country.
Significance) Many soldiers who survived the war later perished due to other problems
associated with the war. Some of these problems were PTSD, long-term wounds, and
negative spiritual effects.

Author) Chau Lam was the author of this document.
Place and Time) Cu Chi, Vietnam in July 1965.
Prior Knowledge) I know that entrances to the tunnels were usually hidden.
Audience) Historians, students, and others who are interested in the Vietnam War.
Reason) He wanted to explain why they used different things in order to deceive enemy
military dogs to keep their tunnels secret.
The Main Idea) U.S. German Shepherds proved to be ineffective in the Vietnam War,
because the Vietnamese used several things to deceive them.
Significance) The Vietnamese took away one of Americas greatest advantages in dogs,
which allowed them to hide in the Cu Chi Tunnels more effectively. This helped the
Vietnamese become more capable of defeating the U.S.

Document #3) Tunnel Rats Stories.


Author) Norman "Butch" Petit was the author of this document.
Place and Time) Cu Chi, Vietnam in late 1966.
Prior Knowledge) I know that tunnel rats were usually small and intelligent military
personnel.
Audience) Historians, students, and others who are interested in the Vietnam War.
Reason) He wanted to let people know what his military life was like as a tunnel rat.
The Main Idea) Tunnel rats, like Norman Butch Petit, were always the first ones into
one of the tunnels in search of booby traps and VC troops.
Significance) It took a lot of bravery to be a tunnel rat, because they risked their lives to
protect their fellow soldiers. Most men who fitted the profile of a tunnel rat volunteered to
be one.
Document #4) Letter Home.
Author) Lance Corporal Pierce Malmquist was the author of this document.
Place and Time) Vietnam in early September 1968.
Prior Knowledge) I know that most soldiers who fought in the war had family back home
that they wrote to.
Audience) The Malmquist family, friends, and townsfolk.
Reason) He wanted to notify his family that he was alright and slightly tell them how the
conditions were. Also, he wanted to see how his family was doing back in the U.S.
The Main Idea) Lance Corporal Pierce Malmquist was very happy to hear that his family
was doing well back home and was looking forward to spending time with them once he
got back.
Significance) Most soldiers thought that they would return home safely, but a lot of men
didnt. Over 58,000 U.S. soldier died during the Vietnam War.
