How to
1.1 Retrieve the back up data from HiVDR-E
The back up data made by ODB (On-demand backup) function which is available at HiRAM is stored at
separated storage inside of HiDPU (Data process Unit). The operation system of HiDPU is equally same
as a regular computer but specially designed for marine purpose. Its also compatible with other office
computers such as a desktop or laptop computer. Were going to use one of these type of computer to
retrieve the data.

Retrieve the data is just simple as coping files from one to another folder. Since it is the communication
between two computers, we need a network connection to link each computer. This will be the only
difference from just coping files from one to another folder.

You may have to notice that

1. Although you retrieved the data from HiVDR, you must have dedicated software HiVDR-PL to
replay back-up data.
2. Make sure what youre doing. If youre not confident of doing certain operation, please contact
customer service center.
3. Since youre accessing HiVDR through network connection there might be a chance of virus
infection. Make sure that your computer is free from virus then proceed the instruction.
4. All instruction and figures are made under the assumption that the operation system of your
computer is Microsoft Windows XP professional english version. The figures may different if
youre using other version of Microsoft Windows.

1.1.1 Preparation
To make a valid connection to HiVDR following materials must be prepared.
1. A desktop or laptop computer with at least 2GB free space for one backup copy.
(May need more space to retrieve more copies)
2. A straight (op. of cross) Ethernet (LAN) cable long enough to connect your computer to HiVDR.
3. This documentation.

1.1.2 Getting started

Once everything has been prepared first you have to make identical IP structure of your computer with
HiDPU.

Go to Network Connections. (Start Control Panel Network Connections)

Find out Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the items and double click.
Then youll see a popup window Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties.
Select Using the following IP address and change IP address, Subnet mask and Default
gateway as follow. Dont care DNS server addresses.

IP address: 10.8.5.250
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 10.8.5.1

Reboot your computer to make sure the changed IP address takes effect.

Now youre ready to connect to HiVDR.

1.1.3 Making connection to HiVDR

Open the front door of HiDMU-E cabinet.
Theres a outlet extended from HiFES (Fast enthernet switching HUB) below HiAI16/HiDI16 modules.
Plug each end of prepared LAN cable to your computer and any spare port of the outlet.
See whether related LED of the connected port is blinking.

1.1.4 Searching HiDPU on the network

Now your computer is physically connected to VDR system.
Using search function, look for HiDPU on the network. (Start Search Computers or people A
Computer on the network)
Enter IP address of HiDPU (10.8.5.205) at the search box then press Search button.
If everything has done properly so far, youll see the computer with the name 10.8.5.205 at the results.
Double click the computer (HiDPU) from the result to browse.
Youll find out Dpudata and E folders have been shared.

1.1.5 Retrieving the data

Inside HiDPU, therere two separated storage for different purpose. One is for main recording function
which will store 7day data and another is for ODB (On-demand backup) function which were focusing
on.

As youve already seen, therere 2 folders shared.

Dpudata folder is for main recording function.

Please note: We strongly recommend NOT to access to Dpudata folder without any instruction from
customer service center. Immaturity of handling this data may cause system conflict. Problems followed
by trying to access this folder are solely operators responsibility. Attempts to manipulate or amend
the data will void warranty.

E folder is the one were going to explore. ODB command from HiRAM let the VDR back up the data to
this folder. This will be stored as a form of a folder with UTC time stamp.

1.1.5.1 Retrieving and erasing the backup data from E folder

Since the name of folders at E folder is made according to the UTC time when ODB function has been
activated, you have to know which time you activate ODB function to find out proper backup data.

Once you find out the proper backup folder, simply drag-and-drop to desktop or click the folder and
press Ctrl+C to copy and move to preferred location using explorer then Ctrl+V to paste. We
recommend copying the data under C (or D, if there is) root to easily find out.

You may erase the data folder at E folder if E drive is almost full. Select unwanted data folders and
press delete key on the keyboard.
