FRONTRUNNERS: THE STUDENT PLACEMENT SCHEME

Making an application:
Please complete the application form that can be found on the frontrunners website and attach a
curriculum vitae

Frontrunner level placements


We will only accept applications from students that have not previously completed a frontrunner
placement or frontrunner plus placement.

Frontrunner Plus level placements


We will accept applications from all students. However, if you have previously completed the same
placement at this level you are not eligible to apply. You can still apply for a different frontrunner plus
level placement.

Please note shortlisting is undertaken by a panel after the closing date on the basis of information
provided. If any of the documents are missing your application will not be considered.

Closing Date: Thursday 22 June 2017 at 12pm (noon). Late applications will not be considered.

Clearly state in the subject field of the email the placement you are applying for.

If you are applying for more than one placement please ensure you submit a separate application form
and CV. Each application set will need to be submitted on a separate email.

Brief description of the placement:


An exciting opportunity to join the Essex Business School (EBS) Marketing Team to assist with
social media and digital marketing for student recruitment. You will help to create exciting,
student-focused content, including taking campus photos.

Duties of the Placement:

The duties of the placement will include:

Involvement with EBS social media. Creating content and scheduling posts for the EBS
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram pages.
Taking photographs for social media, including during Capturing on campus activities and events creatively for
recruitment events. social media. You will be required to work during key periods
such as the Colchester Campus Open Day on 21 October
2017.
Sourcing student stories for the web and social media. Meeting key individuals from the EBS SET Team, Student
Ambassadors and the Students' Union to shape an online
content calendar. Identify news stories and content from
across the department for social media, including
interviewing students.
Competitor research. Researching and reporting on competitor social media and
online marketing activity.
Proofreading. Proofreading online and printed content.

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from
time to time to meet changing circumstances and do not form part of the contract of employment.

University. Completing this course will help you to look after

to prevent fires, what to do if you discover a fire and how to
evacuate safely when the fire alarm sounds.
Optional central frontrunners training Get up to You will become familiar with the University's dos and donts
Scratch with Social Media of social media and learn how to plan content that is
interesting, informative and engaging. With tools that make
social media monitoring and scheduling easy and effective,
you will be able to communicate with and grow your following
better than ever before
Optional central frontrunners training Brand In this workshop, youll become familiar with our brand and find
training out what makes Essex different. Well also tell you all about our
challenger narrative, visual identity and where to access useful
resources and guidance. Our challenger narrative is essentially
our voice and is integral to how we communicate with
students, staff and external organisations across the
University. By the end of the workshop youll have a good idea
of how to write and present your work in a style which reflects
who we are
Managing social media Social media is an important marketing tool to reach youth
audiences, but it must be managed effectively to be successful
and meet corporate objectives. You will undertake a session
that outlines how the University of Essex approaches social
media, including the channels it uses and what it uses them
for, and how you can ensure the EBS social channels are on
brand, adhere to its tone of voice and are in fitting with the
department's marketing strategy. By understanding how an
organisation approaches and utilises social media, you can
show employers that you understand the strategic implications
of social media, as well as how it can be used creatively.
Writing for the web Online audiences have different needs to those reading printed
marketing material. To reach these audiences effectively and
get your message across, you must understand the rules of
writing for the web. This online training course will equip you
with vital skills in producing online content, an essential skill for
a career in marketing.
Proofreading The ability to correct written copy is essential for online
marketing and will benefit you in both your career and studies.
This will be on-the-job training provided by your line manager.

All frontrunner placements will provide you with an opportunity to gain and develop skills which are specific to
each placement.

key aspects of writing for the web.
Project management You will develop your skills in time management by
gathering and producing content to deadlines.
Creativity You will develop your creativity by producing innovative
online content, including taking photos of on campus
activities.
