In June 2008, according to the data from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Tourism
revealed that the number of arrivals at the Phnom Penh International Airport decreased by
2.01% -from 49,063 to 48,079 persons, against last months, and this number also represented
0.11% down that of the same period previous year, which made up of 48,134 persons, the
number of arrivals at the Siem Reap International Airport decreased by 22.53% -from 43,999 to
33,087 persons, and marked an 20.07% down compared to same period previous year, which
amounted to 42,645 persons and the number of arrivals by land and boat fell by 11.10% against
last months, from 63,211 to 56,197 persons, and reflected an increase by 55.75% over that of
the same period previous year, totalling 36,081 persons.
In June 2008, according to the data from the Ministry of Planning reported that, inflation
increase by 1.33%, compare to last months. Commodity prices on local markets presented a
increased. Of which, food prices reportedly an increased for example, the second quality price
increased by 1.92% -from 2,600 to 2,650 riels/kg, the Dressed chicken went up by 5.64%-from
16,850 to 17,800 riels/kg, first quality beef price increased by 3.99% -from 21,300 to 22,150
riels/kg, the mud fish (large) increased by 0.37% -from 13,620 to 13,670 riels/kg, the gasoline
price increased by 11.40% -from 5,000 to 5,570 riels/litre, and diesel price rose by 17.04% -
from 4,740 to 5,548 riels/litre. Overall, the annual inflation rate year on year in June 2008
posted 24.84%.
In June 2008, according to the report from the Ministry of Commerce and World Bank
appreciated that, the most main commodity prices on the international markets presented price
compared to those of preceding month. For example, the second quality rice price in Bangkok,
Thailand increased by 1.13% -from 825.3 to 834.6 US$/ton, the rubber price in Singapore rose
by 8.32% -from 3,065 to 3,320 US$/ton, the steel wire rod price in USA rose by 18.04% -from
790 to 1,000 US$/ton, oil brent price in London, UK increased by 7.35% -from 123.9 to 133.1
US$/barrel, and the sugar price in London, UK went up by 0.49% -from 266.1 to 267.4
US$/ton. But, log price in Malaysia depreciated by 3.78% -from 283.0 to 272.3 US$/m3.
In June 2008, generally, the US dollar position continued to strongly against the major
currencies in the world markets. For example, Korean won went down by 1.02% -from 1,031 to
1,041 won/dollar, Vietnamese dong decreased by 4.13% -from 16,422 to 17,100 dong/dollar,
Thai bath decreased by 3.77% -from 32.51 to 33.73 baht/dollar, Japanese yen fell by 0.65%
from 105.49 to 106.17 yen/dollar, and the Cambodian riel depreciated by 2.02% -from 4,007 to
4,082 riels/dollar. But, Euro value jump by 2.20%-from 0.64 to 0.63 Euro/dollar.

In June 2008, according to the data from National Bank of Cambodia revealed that the total
liquidity decreased by 1.05% -from 12,833 to 12,698 billion riels, compared to previous month.
This was contributed mainly to the increase of the foreign currency deposit fell by 1.61% -from
10,246 to 10,081 billions riels, and the currency outside banks decreased by 0.56% -from 2,362
to 2,349 billion riels, But, the domestic credit (stock) went up by 7.87% -from 6,051 to 6,527
billion riels, and credit to the private enterprises increased by 5.15% -from 8,755 to 9,205
billion riels. Net official reserve including gold in May 2008 could sustain more than 4.5
months of retained imports of goods and services.
In June 2008, according to the data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Ministry of
Economy and Finance reported that total value of import decreased by 9.82% -from 828,29 to
746,94 billion riels, compared to previous month. Of which, import of import of food and
ingredients decreased by 0.52% -from 20,57 to 20,47 billion riels, the import of vehicle,
motorbikes and spare part decline by 11.32% -from 198,03 to 175,61 billion riels, and the
import of electricity decreased by 11.51% -from 4.96 to 4.39 billion riels. But, import of steel
rose by 2.37% -from 21,97 to 22,49 billion riels, and the import of petroleum appreciated by
16.37% -from 90,38 to 105,18 billion riels.
In June 2008, total value of export increased by 0.75% - from 283,28 to 285,41 million dollars,
compared to last months. Of which, the export of shoes rose by 21.91% -from 5,85 to 7,13
millions dollars, the export of other textile products jump by 0.78% -from 1,88 to 1,90 million
dollars, export of fishing products increased by 39.54% -from 3,63 to 5,07 millions dollars, and
the export rubber up by 186.36% -from 0,05 to 0,15 million dollars. But, the export of clothing
decreased by 1.63% -from 166,80 to 262,46 millions dollars.
In June 2008, the public finance reflected a decrease compared to previous month. Of which,
current revenue amounted 473.48 billion riels, decreased by 5.75% against last months,
totalling 502.35 billion riels. This number also represented 39.16% up that of the same period
previous year, totalling 340.25 billion riels. While, tax revenue decreased by 10.07% -from
451.99 to 406.40 billions riels. But, non-tax revenue went up by 33.20% -from 50.36 to 67.08
billion riels. In the same time, the current outlays on cash basis accounted for 443.23 billion
riels, representing an increase of 10.68% against 400.48 billion riels last months. Overall,
current budget balance in first 6 month in 2008, posted a noticeable deficit of 105.51 billion
riels.
