Terms of Offer: This offer has been made on the condition that you have met
the following terms:

1. Meet the universitys standard entry requirements for a research


degree, i.e. a relevant Bachelor degree with Honours (UK
equivalent) Class 2:1 or better or a relevant Masters degree (UK
equivalent) and if you are from a country where English is not the
language of the majority (as defined by the UKVI), or if your first
language is not English, you will require an IELTS 6.5 minimum
in all elements of the assessment (or an equivalent or one of the
above degrees if obtained in a majority English speaking country).

2. Completion of an Assignment of Intellectual Property Rights Form.

3. If you are not being sponsored or your fees are not covered in full
by your bursary, you will be expected to pay 50% of your fees on

Research Summary: Title: Novel formulations for buccal delivery of low dose aspirin for the
prevention of thrombosis designed for elderly people with dysphagia.

The research aims to


(i) To design, formulate, characterise and investigate novel drug
delivery system using chitosan and carrageenan for delivering low
dose aspirin via the buccal route. The formulation will be focused on
obtaining an optimised novel formulation (films or xerogel), optimised
drug loading and release properties with long shelf-life.

(ii) To show the effectiveness of the optimised formulation technique,


solvent casting and freeze drying, using chitosan and
carrageenan polymer for the delivery of low dose
aspirin via the buccal mucosa.

(iii) To find out the optimised formulation using chitosan,


carrageenan or composite system of both polymers.

(iv) Investigate the effect of low dose aspirin using a


designed in vitro model for the treatment of thrombosis.

Upon arrival at the University, you should arrange, in the first instance, to meet with your
supervisor(s). You should then register with the University this is a two-part process.

1. Part one of registration with the University for new students is via an on-line process2. The
website address for this is http://www.gre.ac.uk/students/reg. As a new student, if you do
not have a user name/id to log-on, you will need to click on Portal Support. Upon
completion of Part One you will need to print the final page.

2. Part two of registration needs to be undertaken at the Student Centre on the campus where
you will be based. You will need to provide the Student Centre staff with some form of
identification (a passport if you are an overseas student) and your original qualification
certificate(s). Photocopies will not be accepted.

Online registration is open for all months of the academic year except for June and July. Students registering during
these months will need to undertake registration at their most convenient campus-based Student Centre.

Committee can withdraw my registration.
I will be expected to comply fully with the latest Academic Regulations for Research Awards

If I dont comply with the requirements of the Faculty Research Degrees Committee as
outlined in the Academic Regulations my registration can be withdrawn.
I will be expected to demonstrate progress to my supervisor and to the Faculty Research
Degrees Committee annually via my annual report (RDA4), and am aware that I must
demonstrate sufficient progress each academic year to remain on the programme of study
(e.g. completion of a chapter, publication or article)
I will notify the Faculty Research Degrees Committee, using the appropriate form, of any
request for a change to my registration status
I will be expected to submit a research proposal (Form RDA1a&b) to the Research Degrees
Committee within 6 months from the date that I register as a research student with the
university.
Once I have registered as a student it will be my responsibility to monitor my university e-
mail account for communications with research students.
An oral examination (viva voce) will take place at the relevant point (not later than two years
into the programme) to enable you to transfer to the PhD. Upgrade to the PhD will only
occur if you demonstrate the robustness of your research programme
