Hockey Canada Standard of Play (New)

Hockey Canada has developed a NEW Standard of Play throughout its

jurisdiction. These are not new rules, not NHL standard but rule emphasis. The
officials are being instructed to call the game of hokey as per the Hockey
Canada Rule Book. This memo is part of an e-mail that also includes (in PDF format) Hockey
Canada Bulletin that deals with the New Standard of Play and Diving as a result of the new
standard

In short:
A player's hands are used to hold the hockey stick. Once the player lets go, that hand is
considered to be in the danger zone. If there is a consequence there will be a penalty.

A players stick is used to play the puck. If the stick is placed anywhere near the opposing player
without the intention of playing the puck it is considered to be in the danger zone. If there is a
consequence, there will be a penalty.

This new Standard of Play will mean more penalties per game until the teams support the
program and the program will not change. The teams must!

This should make for a much faster and more thrilling brand of hockey.
