0 Discussion
Throughout the experiment, the objectives of this project are archived, however there were
several obstacles that we had faced during the experiment. Firstly, is the fabrication of our
model-instrument. There were several designs beforehand as we interpreted and chose the
best among them all aftermath. In addtion, the material utiliszed is the other contributing
factor. If we were to use a thread to hold on the paper clips, the outcome is not a satisfying
result due to the vibration induced within a soft material. This leads to an inaccurate obtained
results. On the other hand, if we were to use a metal string, the minimum frequecy acquired
for its resonant is about 120 Hz, whereby is beyond the scope of this experiment. Besides,
errors do occurred during the experiment as such error is on the test rig itself. The adjustable
gauge to control the frequecy is too sensitive that we observed this may affect the motors
speed and finally effecting on our data for the frequency. As for our model-instrument, the
error occurred during the positioning of the instrument. We are afraid that due to the worng
positioning of the model-instrument on the bearings of the shaft may affect the exact data
from what we have predicted. Lastly is a random error such as human error and parallax
error. The reading we record may not be an accurate result due to an improper eye position
during the observed of the string vibration and also during the time recording.
5.2 Limitation
The limitation from this project is based on the smaller division of the measurement
mentioned in the instruction. The design factors must ranged between 10 Hz and 30Hz.
Therefore, the model-instrument must response between this frequency domain. If the paper
clips in the model-instrument did not response during the test, this concludes that the
frequency of the unbalanced shaft is beyond the range stated, either below 10 Hz or higher
than 30 Hz. Thus, the instrument may not measure these vibration. Futhermore, the rig
instrument do have limitation, the shaft can rotates up to 45 Hz. Also in terms of dimension,
the limitation is judged on the requirement of measuring the vibration within bearing 1 and
bearing 2.
Figure 5.1 show the limit in term of dimension between bearing 1 and bearing 2
5.3 Cost
There are no cost to our model-instrument as we have used all the recycle materials that we
could find to fabricate. The steel wire is obtained from the scrap of a weilding center in Parit
Raja, whereas the hot glue gun belongs to one of our member.
