One method to excite a larger test object is to vibrate the structure using an electrodynamic shaker
attached to the test object by a stinger and an impedance head. The driving point impedance may
then be accurately measured over various frequencies of interest. Output signals from the
impedance head may be then fed to a spectrum analyzer, and with appropriate software, may be
used to compute the dynamic impedance function. Dynamic impedance is defined as Force/Velocity. The force is read out
directly from the 5860B and a single integration of the accelerometer signals yields velocity. Computations are made by an
appropriately programmed spectrum analyzer and the dynamic impedance function displayed graphically.

PIEZOELECTRIC PRESSURE SENSORS Charge Mode
Design of the model 2180C utilizes a special high-temperature piezoceramic material which generates
a charge signal in response to sound pressure acting on the stainless steel diaphragm. The sensor is
acceleration compensated to reduce the risk of spurious ambient vibration signals adding to signal
output. In addition, the model 2180C features internal case ground isolation to avoid EMI/ground loop
interference, as well as complete Faraday shielding of the sensing element to prevent AC noise pickup
from external electrodynamic sources. This internal electrical isolation means that the sensing element

PIEZOELECTRIC PRESSURE SENSORS IEPE
Available in seven dierent models with full scale ranges between 250 and 15,000 psi, design
of the Dytran 2300V series incorporates a stable quartz sensing element operating in compression mode, packaged in a
rugged one-piece stainless steel housing with external 5/16-24 mounting threads and weighing just six grams. Units are
especially recommended for use in installations in which there is a chance that the probe could become embedded in the
mounting port, such as when used with certain corrosive fluids, as there is no chance of 2300V series sensors twisting apart
during removal. Since it is manufactured as a single piece, the sensors are easily removed from the mounting port by simply

mounting ports prepared for one-piece probes with 5/16-24 external threads. Units are recommended for general purpose
use and for replacement in installations in which there is little chance that the sensor will become lodged in the mounting
port. They are hermetically sealed for reliable operation in harsh and dirty environments.

A microprocessor SLEEP mode is utilized to eliminate high frequency clock noise and
their associated harmonics. The microprocessor WAKES momentarily to acknowledge
front panel switch depressions then goes to SLEEP immediately after processing and
executing the requested function. This allows the amplifiers to operate within minimum
self generated noise and provides clean, clock free signals.
4010 The Dytran model 4010 incorporates dual 12-bit DACs for each channel, to auto-zero the
input and output amplifiers for DC input signals. Input signals with magnitudes of 10
VDC can be zeroed. A unique output DAC trimming routine allows trimming the output
zero within 1 mVDC.
The transducer excitation supplies are individually adjustable for each channel from 0.00
to 12.00 VDC. Any setting above 12.00 VDC will generate an excitation voltage of 12.10
VDC. The outputs are short circuit protected and can supply up to 30 mA each. Remote
sense leads are provided to eliminate errors caused be long cable lengths.

linear voltage regulators instead, as opposed to switching regulators, to minimize

For each channel, the model 4020 uses 12 bit DACs to set amplifier gains from 0.00 to

the instrument.
A rear panel voltage selector switch allows selection of 100, 115 or 230 VAC, 50-60Hz,
