2. Eat sunnah foods
There are various foods that we know the Prophet Muhammad [salal-
lahu alayhi wa sallam] used to eat and what better time to consume
them with the intention of following the sunnah, than in Ramadhan?
Not only are they extremely healthy, theyre natural, easy to consume
and save you so much time!
Dates and water: We know that he [saw] used to break his fast with
dates and water, as the hadith says: The Messenger of Allah (sala-
llahu alayhi wa sallam) used to break his fast before praying with
some fresh dates; but if there were no fresh dates, he had a few dry
dates, and if there were no dry dates, he took some mouthfuls of wa-
ter. [Sunan Abi Dawud].
He also ate cucumbers with dates, as Abdullah bin Jafar said: I saw
Allahs Messenger (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) eating cucumber with
fresh dates. [Sahih Muslim]
Barley: The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) also
consumed sawiq, which is a coarse broth made from ground wheat
and barley, as Abdullah bin Abi Aufa narrated: We were in the com-
pany of the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) on a journey and
he was fasting, and when the sun set, he addressed somebody, O
so-and-so, get up and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, O Al-
lahs Apostle! (Will you wait) till it is evening? The Prophet (salallahu
alayhi wa sallam) said, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us.
He replied, O Allahs Messenger (salallahu alayhi wa sallam)! (If you
wait) till it is evening. The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said
again, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, It is
still daytime. The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said again,
Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He got down and mixed
Sawiq for them. The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) drank it
and then said, When you see night falling from this side, the fasting
person should break his fast. [AlBukhari].
There are many other narrations in which barley is shown to be a
popular food in the diet of the Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi
wa sallam)
Fruits: The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) also ate
fruits like figs, grapes and olive oil with bread.
3. Meal planning
Choose a day out of the week and plan all your iftars and suhoors
for the entire week. Try to choose easy and quick meals which will
