RVACG Board of Directors

Saturday, April 8, 2017.


Meeting of the RVACG Board of Directors was called to order at 10:15 am on Saturday April 8, 2017 in
the library of the Spring Green Community Church.
Present: McCarville, McVay, Schneider
Absent: Anderson, D. Miller, B. Miller
Guest: Don Koller

Schneider made motion to establish a quorum. McCarville Second. Motion passed.

McCarville made the motion to accept the minutes from the March 11 meeting as corrected by Schneider.
Schneider second. Motion carried.
Reports.
Presidents Report:
McVay updated the status of the SWOFVT. He reported that 24 cultivars of potatoes have been received
for planting. He reported that Julie Dawson director of the Seed to Kitchen Collaborative had to drop our
garden but we would be at the top of the list for the 2018 gardening season.
McVay reported a successful Pre-season Meeting held on April 1 with 7 plot renters attending.

Secretarys Report.
Schneider reported that she, McVay and Joyce Christie were interviewed on the WRCOs The Morning
Show on March 16. Representatives from the Gardens are invited back for a summer interview.
Schneider reported that the Landscape Planning Committee decided to put the Prairie Garden in the west
orchard area and plants would be dug from the abandoned Prairie Garden at the Community Library as
weather permitted
She reported that the Committee has purchased trees and shrubs from the Sauk County including Red
Maple, White Oak and River Birch trees with Highbush Cranberry, Eldeberry, and Viburnum shrubs
McVay was directed to begin implementation plans for the placement of trees after verifying the
boundary lines with Wes Kraemer
The Committee discussed and tabled the installation of an apiary. The Committee discussed the
installation of the irrigation system.
The establishment of a vineyard was tabled until the gardeners interests in helping with maintenance can
be determined.
Miller reported that shed and bulletin board plans are still being developed.
Miller asked that people responsible for various committees need to let him know how many people and
how many hours to accomplish tasks to be completed.
Next Landscaping Committee meeting is scheduled for May 6.
Treasurers Report.
McCarville reported that the current balance is $332.17. Peoples Bank has donated $200 to the Gardens
from their employes Jeans Day donations.
Insurance fee of $475 is due due May 13.
McCarville presented our 2016 tax return as developed by Cheryl Wittman.

There was no report on the Doerre Hardware March Madness fundraiser.
McCarville cancelled the May 13 Brat Stand because of the Organic Vegetable Gardening seminar
scheduled for Friday May 12.

Anderson has lined up the reducer and other parts for the irrigation system for free.
McCarville reported on potential grants. Cardinal Glass is considering a $500 donation for tools and
shed. She is working on a grant for the 2018 season.
V. Old Business.
Schneider made the motion to table plans for the 2018 Garden Expo substituting 2 or more
workshop/seminars. McCarville second. Motion passed.
VI. New Business.
McCarville made the motion to appoint Don Koller to the RVACG Board of Directors. Schneider
second. Motion passed.
Schneider made the motion to accept Noah McVays donation of fruit trees to the Gardens. McCarville
second. Motion passed.
Schneider made motion to hold a seminar on organic vegetable production with Dr. Erin Silva, Assistant
Professor of the UW-Madison Department of Plant Pathology and UW-Extension Organic and
Sustainable Cropping Systems Specialist, on Friday, May 12, 2017, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the RVHS
Little Theater. McCarville second. Motion passed.
Schneider made the motion to table the discussion for the 2017 open house until the May meeting.
McCarville second. Motion passed.
Open Forum/Public Comment.
McVay announced he would be meeting with the Village Board on April 26 to discuss the trees in the
Gardens.
Discussed the state of the compost bins at the Gardens.
Briefly discussed the possibility of adding an open shed/gazebo in the future plans.
McVay made the motion to adjourn until the next scheduled meeting on Saturday, May 13, 2017, starting
at 10:00 a.m. in the library at Spring Green Community Church. Schneider second. Motion passed.
