Service Pack overview

Service Pack overview

EMC is dedicated to providing a solid support strategy for its customers by ensuring
they have the most up-to-date fixes and enhancements. HYPERMAX OS Service
Packs are a key part of this strategy as they provide important supplementary
information for each Service Release.
This ReadMe covers the HYPERMAX OS VMAX3 Family and the new All Flash
systems. For more information on these systems, see the product pages on
https://support.EMC.com.
Each HYPERMAX OS Service Pack also contains the latest Firmware Pack. The
Firmware Pack ReadMe can be downloaded from: https://support.EMC.com. For the
release history of the Firmware Packs, see Table 17 on page 42.
Two HYPERMAX OS Service Packs are released per code family: one at the target
level and one at the latest code level, with each pack consisting of a set of highly
recommended fixes.
The following information should be noted for each HYPERMAX OS Service Pack:
A new HYPERMAX OS Service Pack should be treated as a superset of all
previously released packs for that code family; that is, a new pack will contain all
previously released fixes plus any new or modified fixes.
If a fix is removed between HYPERMAX OS Service Packs, information will be
included on the fix that has been removed.
If a fix is updated between HYPERMAX OS Service Packs, information will be
included on the revision number of the fix.
All fixes released in an HYPERMAX OS Service Pack will be integrated into the
next Service Release of the code family.

Fixed problems

Fixed problems
This section highlights product issues that are fixed in this HYPERMAX OS Service
Pack. Product issues are listed alphabetically by product feature and by service
request number within each product feature. The following details are available for
each product issue:
Service request numberUnique case number assigned to track the problem. If
the problem was found during product testing by EMC, the case number contains
the abbreviated product name.
Fix numberNumber of the patch or fix for the problem.
Problem summaryHigh-level summary of the problem being reported.
ImpactPotential impact of the issue.
Knowledgebase article (optional)Number of a relevant EMC Knowledgebase
solution.
Additional information (optional)Any additional information about the fix, for
example, if the fix is new, modified, or removed.

become 100% CPU busy that impacts
performance.

RAID5 7+1 configurations are more

exposed to this issue because the
problem is triggered when the EDS
relocation queue size (mostly 1-3 tracks)
is less than the back-end RAID slice size.

82453818, 92161 On VMAX arrays configured with RAID6 Potential N/A

82585090 10K drives, a spike of Host I/O workload Data

generate a large amount of Raid Queues
per single DATA device and run out of
S&F (Store and Forward) buffers. As a
result, the drives may drop Not Ready
and the directors log AD3E, CE3E, DADA
errors.

Errors: AD3E, CE3E, DADA

82147432 91901 Snapshots may fail (by design) because Potential N/A
the RDP space is exhausted. RDP Page Data
Frame (PF) utilization reported by EMC Unavailability
applications (such as Solutions Enabler)
can appear unexpectedly low when a
system has FTS encapsulated DATA
devices in the configuration.

The discrepancy between the Flash and

PF values for RDP is caused by the PF
calculation that does not exclude
encapsulated devices as expected.
Snapshots may fail due to lack of flash
space, but the incorrect RDP utilization
did not present a clear indication that the
system was close to a limit.
