Global Learning Project Worksheet/Proposal

Identify a subject/curricular area you teach that could benefit from a Global Learning
experience. Science and NGSS.

Brainstorm
The overall goal of your GLP
What you want the students to learn? How to create, communicate, collaborate, critically
think, and develop a media presentation of something they make from their culture and
school according to their standards to prepare them for the 21st Century.
What you want them to do? Brainstorm ideas to present and publish it with my GLP.
What you feel will be the cross-cultural benefits? Learning from other cultures their
creations and/or projects.
If there is a final product, what might it look like? A video of a student explaining how
to do something from their culture to other students.
How will it benefit the participants so that they will want to be involved? They will meet
and share fun ideas and something they made with the world and get to see the worlds
ideas and learn their projects too!

Search and review existing projects, resources around the topic, etc to see what is already out
there and how your project can benefit the current GLP projects.
Summarize your findings. There are many language, environmental, moral, cultural, etc.
GLP projects out there. However, I did not see any where the students took responsibility
on choosing and sharing something they made from their culture for others to make too!

Working Title of your GLP [it should reflect what the project is about and peak
curiosity/motivation for your classroom and future students] Hello Neighbor!

Subject of GLP Curricular Area/s

Language Arts, Science, Math, NGSS, open to World standards!!
List the Type/s of GLP structures you will use in your project such as: information exchanges,
electronic publishing; social action project, etc. I will allow whatever anyone designs and
develops. It may be email, upload to a Youtube Channel, Google Suite, audio, pdf, information
exchange, blog, PPT, etc.

Define your project participants [i.e. target audience] Middle School
Biographical info about yourself [host classroom] 7th Grade Math and Science.

What type of participants will you need to make the project successful? (i.e. grade level,
geographical location, language, etc..) 6th-8th World Wide English capable students or those
that can get materials translated or simple universal instructions.

How many classrooms would make the GLP effective? 1 to 1,000,000.

What will your participants roles be? Teacher and student! Create and share and/or learn.

Define Time parameters [start/end dates] March through May.

What is your target date for implementing your GLP? March 2017

What is the target date for concluding your GLP? May 2017

Will you continue annually, biannually? After responses and reflection I will consider.

State the rationale. Why is your project important or worthwhile?

Allows students to think and act outside their country's educational parameters

Provides a practical way to teach the value of diversity in schools

Gives teachers a tool for diverse students within a school to work together

Provides a model for involving parents and community members from minority language groups
into school projects

Allows emotional, intellectual, and personal growth through direct experience with other cultures

Provides students a chance to learn different problem-solving strategies

Prepares students for global literacy

Presents the challenge to make Web-based technology work internationally

Puts students in charge of their own understanding of global perspectives

Gives students the ability to act on the desire for global peace or international relationships

Builds bridges between diverse language or culture groups within a community

See pg 4 of our optional text, Global project-based Learning with Technology for
an excellent list of possible project rationale
http://www.lullah.com/gpblplan/rationale.html also has potential ideas

Write a synopsis of your GLP [1-2 paragraphs]

This is like an advertisement that you will use to give prospective participants a clear idea
of what it is about.
What can YOU SHARE with the WORLD ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
SCHOOL: TEACH THE WORLD what you make at school! Anything: science, math,
language arts, a music, history, drama, physical education, food, art, game, clothes,
jewelry, pottery, a story, a poem, about your community, country, or world!! Teach us
anything to YOUR STANDARDS!! Middle School students 6th, 7th, & 8th and their
teachers will join others from around the world using the internet to share their lessons or
instructions by any media they have access too!! Students/teachers will email or post their
writings, videos, audios, etc. to bemyneighbor.wixsite.com/global or email to
mscarberry16@apu.edu.

State specific Objectives, Standards and Global Learning Outcomes [use action verbs]
Write as specific learning objectives. You may link to standards if possible at this phase in
the process. This will continue to evolve as you build your project in your next class. Things to ask
yourself.
What are your standards-aligned Learning Objective(s) for this GLP? NGSS Cross-
Cutting, Engineering Practices, and Disciplinary Core Ideas .

What are the content standards will you address in this GLP? Next Generation Science
Standards.

What are the main global learning objectives you envision in your GLP? How to create,
communicate, collaborate, critically think, and develop a media presentation of something
they make from their culture and school according to their standards to prepare them for
the 21st Century.

project? They will join others from around the world using the internet to share their lessons or
instructions by any media they have access too!!

Describe Project activities (introductory, learning and culminating activities) that students will
engage in during the GLP? They design and develop their cultural project they would like to share
with the world. It may be email, upload to a Youtube Channel, Google Suite, audio, pdf,
information exchange, blog, PPT, etc.

Define collaboration
How will you communicate? Email, text, blog posts, Skype, Google Hangouts!!

o In what language will you communicate? English, translated or visual
o How will you accommodate other languages? Provide a translator program link.
o How often will you communicate with partners? Monthly and as needed.
How will you collaborate with partner teachers? Group email or Google Hangout.
How will students collaborate
o Within each classroom. They may work together however needed.

What kind of ongoing support do you envision needing to be successful? None for me, but I
will guide others!

Assessment
How will you assess students' proficiency with the standards and objectives selected? Will
you use an observation checklist, a rubric, a test? Rubric and Google Form or survey form.

Will students need any special training to participate in the GLP activities? If so, how will
you build this into your GLP? Can make how to videos on Youtube Channel and provide
directions on website!

As your GLP takes off, evaluate it for quality (Are the students meeting the objectives you

intended? What could you improve?) and efficiency (Is the GLP easy to understand,
participate in and rewarding for the participants?).
Challenges/Constraints
What do you envision to be the greatest challenge with your GLP? Organizing projects and
making examples to get people started!

How might you complete the project if you dont have the required number of participants?
Use my classes, approximately 120 students.

What roadblock or obstacles might prevent you from implementing this project? How might
you deal with these? Time. Plan.

Thots to ponder.

can solve a social or environmental problem
explore parallel histories
promote cultural healing
share a variety of perspectives around the world through many curricular areas (i.e. literature
exchanges
Diversity in language and culture among students and staff can be either a challenge or
opportunity. Global project-based learning is a model for working with diverse students to
utilize the differences into distinct learning advantages. Whether the projects include local
populations or working to include students from other countries, global project-based
learning provides concrete techniques for valuing diversity, integrating technology in project-
based learning, and growing community support at schools. Mark Standley

For 526 (final class) you will present your newly implemented GLP website, reflect on your
experience and what your future plans for your GLP are.
