The role of music in society

What is the role of music in society. Music has been going on since time immemorial. Perhaps before
language had developed music was already in use. The word music is associated with the muses of
Greek mythology. Music held a fundamental place in Hellenistic society. Students were educated in
music before anything else, to give a sense of harmony, rhythm, etc. These same ideas were applied
to other areas such as architecture.
