Significant Events and/or Feedback from my Mentor Teacher:
Today was a great success, particularly in regards to group figurine play story time. Personal
research and clarification in regards to authoritative and authoritarian teaching strategies
significantly helped by behavioural management.

I fully recited the Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I had paper script as a backup only and
did not use it (as per my practice over the weekend). It was rewarding to see childrens clear
interest and engagement. Setting simple and clear expectations (e.g. to listen dramatising
to put listening ears on) was very helpful in balancing control and involvement.

Using a louder voice and tone to re-catch childrens attention. Naming and asking for direct
involvement was also very effective. Having consistencies in characters voice (e.g. grumpy
voice for Papa Bear etc.) established a sustained understanding. Pauses, incomplete
sentences and open-ended rhetorical questions (e.g. whats going to happen next?) lead to
childrens positive oral participation.
Reflection
Using the loose neck strategy (as suggested by my Mentor Teacher) enabled full and direct
vision of children at all times. Potential challenging behaviour were be spotted at the
immediate level. This improved the likelihood for the story to remain uninterrupted until
end.

Significant Events and/or Feedback from my Mentor Teacher
I believe todays literacy experience was able to follow-up in regards to building strategies
to empower childrens direct involvement with the story. Children seemed to very
attentively and quietly listen to the story. Short yet full passages of characters (notably the
Papa Bear) alarmed children to recite the phrases all at once. Incorporating what happened
next? questions caught some oral response, building on childrens comprehension and
predictability skills of the text.
