Banishment and Spilt Blood in the Old Family Feud

Thursday, June 2, 1595 - On
Monday, late afternoon, Romeo
Montague killed Tybalt Capulet
because Tybalt killed Mercutio,
relative to Prince Escalus and best
friend to Romeo. Romeo was then
banished from Verona and left for
Mantua. The Prince spared Romeos killing the one who began this
life but if he came back to Verona
again, he shall be killed. Romeos
banishment is very generous of the
Prince because the law was if
anyone participated in a duel, they
would be executed. Banishment is
far better than death, however,
lifelong banishment is too much
because the person banished will
never be able to come back.
The Prince declared before that
another street fight in Verona, will
cost the participants life, If ever
you disturb our streets again, your
lives shall pay the forfeit of the
peace, claimed Prince Escalus.
Tybalt wanted to fight the Montague Mercutio. Then the Prince showed
family and insulted Romeo by
calling him a villain even though
Romeo wanted to make peace with
Tybalt. The Princes orders were
disobeyed, but Romeo took justice
by taking the live who started the
fight, whom was Tybalt. Romeos
spared life is the right choice
because he did obey the rules for
fourth disturbance.
Lady Capulet wanted justice and
revenge for Tybalts death, I beg
for justice, which thou, Prince, must
give. Romeo slew Tybalt. Romeo
must not live, shouted Lady
Capulet. But instead, the Prince told
the citizens that Romeo was exiled
from Verona and if he was found,
then he shall be removed, Mercy
but murders, pardoning those that
kill, concluded the Prince. This
decision was made because Tybalt
killed the Princes relative. This is
the right choice to make because
Romeo performed justice towards
gratitude to Romeos actions by
sparing his life.
Romeo being banished instead of
being put to death makes sense
because he killed Tybalt, who
started the street fight, and the lives
of the participants in any fight will
be killed. So that will count as
revenge for Mercutio, but Romeo
was still involved so his life should
have been taken as well. But, the
Prince does not want to kill Romeo
because he acted the right way for
setting an example to what will
happen if the citizens disobey.
However, the Prince cannot reward
Romeo because he must stop the
dueling madness and the best way is
to make Romeo leave Verona. The
best solution to this issue is to place
guards to secure the grounds so no
one can fight, make the law of
fighting more serious and to make
peace with everyone in Verona.
