AN INCLUSIVE COMMONWEALTH

The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of
us and incorporated into our common life Jane Addams

When a group of individual or members of any group small or large live together and share a
common life and have developed a strong sense of awe feeling among them they form a
community. In other words
a community is a self-organised network of people with common cause, or interest, who
collaborate by sharing ideas, information, and other resources.
It is obvious and natural that people residing in a definite area develop likeness, co-
operation and fellow-feeling among themselves. As a result they share common customs,
traditions, culture and develop common social ideas among themselves. This fact of
common social living within a limited or definite geographical area gives birth to community.
As such, there are so many communities the world over, separated by languages, cultures,
or geographical locations. However, they are related to each other in some way or other, as
a result a full fledged community was created.
A sense of community is important to establish peace and harmony among the society. The
division of work, feeling of association, togetherness, and cooperation - all these help in
establishing a healthy atmosphere filled with unity, harmony and friendship.Making this
world one , single community. Community is the original and first abode of human
civilisation. The human civilisation itself reared up in community, dating from the pre-
historic era when man led a nomadic or barbarian life and wandered for food till the time he
learnt farming Man has been living in community of some sort or the other.A community
not only helps in empowering people but also assimilates various values in them which
aren't just enduring and everlasting but are also imperishable with sense of togetherness,
cooperation division of work and feeling of association being some of its basic elements.A
sense of togetherness lies in the soul of every individual. This comes from our care and
dependency on our fellow beings. From our childhood days to our adulthood, we care for
our family members, our relatives, our neighbours and friends. This leads to a need of
togetherness among people, which helps in creating a community. We tend to enjoy any
festival or social ritual together. This is a kind of community feeling. Without it, people will
be alone, there won't be anyone to talk to or to share with.We share our work, and this
division of work leads to our dependency on other people working in different roles. All
these individuals fall into a community, without whom our lives will be very difficult.
Division of work is, therefore, important for a well-formed and well-functioning
community. The very idea of community comes into being because people like to cooperate
with each other. The sense of cooperation begins at home and it leads to a strong feeling of
brotherhood. In a community, people live by associating with one another. The feeling of
association is a common human feeling. This helps in establishing peace and harmony within
a community. Without a feeling of association there will be chaos and disharmony in the
society or community. Hence, this point plays an important role in making it lively and
vibrant. When a group of individual or members of any group small or large live together and

birth to a whole new ideas with diversity being one of them can be said to be the building
block of the modern society.Diversity is the essence of evolution. It is the art of thinking
together.Right from the ancient times, it has been clearly evident that various races of the
world interacted and traded with each other. Calling diversity as one of the leading survival
tactics of the human race wont be an anomaly. It opens up the mind and diminishes the
boundaries defined by set of authoritarians. Diversity is eminent in nature. The diverse
colours of Mother Nature, seasonal variations, existence of solar, lunar and planetary
movements in harmony and in coordination are nothing but diverse expressions of the
same.Man is a small constituent of this colossal cosmos. And as stated earlier, diversity is an
essence of the existence. People hailing from different cultures, ethnicity, race, country or
religion should be considered as a part of the one society only. There have been consistent
incidences in the past which point towards the inequality and unjustified behaviour
expressed by a particular race towards the others. This behaviour is a denial of the Gods
creation. In his infinite wisdom, he created people of all colours and creeds. There are
various cultures and religions that are followed in the present society set up. Everyone has
the right to follow and express his religious beliefs in solidarity. Instead of making prejudices
and demeaning people, try to embrace the goodness of each. No religion spread the
message of hatred or communalism. It is the followers or the conservatives who modify the
teachings according to their maligned thoughts. In the modern world the international
boundaries are already shrinking. The increasing trade among the countries and the
outsourcing of jobs is an example. No country can survive on its own. Mutual collaboration
among all parts of the world is mandatory. Accepting the diversity is not only an option but
compulsory for the sustenance of humanity. Accepting the diversity gracefully will help in
building a congenial environment. The base line is to warmly embrace the diverse cultures
and religions and their teachings prevalent in the world. It will help to improvise the human
race as a whole and will lead towards a better future for generations to follow.Last but not
the least We are a nation of communitiesa brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a
thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky-George Bush.
