Introduction
System development life cycle models are employed for the development of various systems and
inventory management system also follows the same development life cycle. Inventory
management is very fundamental for various businesses which include the Point of sales and
product delivery to customers. A retail business like the Fresco Pvt Ltd relies on the common
inventory for the working of three of its offices in diverse locations. A well developed and designed
inventory system will offer the organization an efficient way of controlling its stocks. This report
will evaluate the applicability of various system development life cycle models to select the most
optimum model for the needs of Fresco Pvt Ltd. A properly designed inventory system will enable
the business to circumvent situations like overstock or out-of-stock for different products.

1. Comparison among Models for the System Development
Development of any software system or a hardware system requires a development approach
known as the system analysis and design. There are various development models which can be

tracked in order to develop a system: Waterfall, Spiral, Prototyping and the Agile. The SDLC
model of system development is a widely popular standard of developing a system in a presented
manner. The model follows a number of development phases which are responsible for several
key-tasks. A development model based on SDLC involves everything from preliminary
assessment of requirements to the maintenance of the implemented system. The SDLC model of
system development has gained a widespread acceptance for its operations due to its high
efficiency. The importance of the SDLC model comes in the form of better approach in developing

The process allows the managers to display progress of the system in sequential phases and the

However, we are giving preference to the SDLC model here based on its staged design and easy
implementation. Waterfall model takes a lot of time in the feedback process. A prototype model is
too expensive for this situation unless we find our desired solution in the initial few prototypes.
The Staged life cycle model is a nifty approach for the information systems due to their easy
applicability and sequential approach.

In development of any project, the work failure structure provides the separated and sometimes
sequential tasks that need to be done in order to complete the whole project.

accurate since the prediction is done based on the analysis of different stages of it. The network
scheduling also helps the approximate cost estimation as the cost can be adjusted in-between the
