ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Nothing concrete can be achieved without an optimum combination of
inspection and perspiration. The idea of presenting this material without
adequate thanks to those who give it to us or pointed in the right
direction seems simply indefensible. Generating this piece has been time
consuming and an arduous task and has involved various contributions.
It is our pleasure to acknowledge the help we have received from
different individuals, project guide during the project.
Our first sincere appreciation and gratitude goes to respected Mrs. Avali
Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electronics & Comm. Engineering ,
Guru Nanak Institute Of Technology for her guidance constructive
comments, valuable suggestion and inspiration. During the entire project
we have received endless help from her.
We are sincerely thankful to Prof. Dr. Sunipa Roy, H.O.D., Electronics &
Comm. Engineering, Guru Nanak Institute Of Technology for his support,
suggestions and guidance.
We would also like to thanks to the support rendered by the faculty
members, library teachers and staffs, who helped us in the course of our
project.

ABSTRACT

To save energy using technology we made Bidirectional Visitor

Counter with Security System.
It focuses on conserving electricity and providing the best
security to a house.
The concept is that if anyone enters a room they must be
verified by the owner through security camera.
As soon as we entered in number their number is counted and
displayed on 7 segment display and room lights are switched
on automatically. And as we exit the lights are switched off.

INTRODUCTION

This project is a very important towards harnessing

energy.
The project focuses on the automation of Room Light
with the incoming and outgoing of persons.
IP Webcam turns your phone into a network camera with
multiple viewing options. We can view our camera on any
platform with VLC player or web browser. Optional video on
cloud broadcasting is supported for instant global access.
Two-way audio is supported in tiny Cam Monitor on another
android device.
We use IP Webcam with third-party MJPG software, including
video surveillance software, security monitors and most
audio players.
COMPONENTS REQUIRED

Microcontroller (74192, 4543, 4001)

Resistors (10k ohm, 1k ohm, 330 ohm)
Capacitor (0.1 uF)
IR sensor module
7 segment display
Vero board
Connecting wires
LED
Relay
BC547 transistors
Camera
Fan
Light
WORKING PRINCIPLE

The project is divided in six parts:

Sensor, Controller, Counter display, Gate, buzzer and
Camera sections.
The sensor would observe an interruption and provide
an input to the controller which would run the counter
increment or decrement depending on entering or
exiting of the person.
And counting is displayed on a 7 segment display
through the controller.
An IP webcam installed at the door will snap the image
of person outside.

Sensor section: In this section we have used two IR

sensor modules which contain IR diodes, potentiometer,
Comparator (Op-Amp) and LEDs. Potentiometer is used for
setting reference voltage at comparators one terminal and IR
sensors sense the object or person and provide a change in
voltage at comparators second terminal. Then comparator
compares both voltages and generates a digital signal at
output. Here in this circuit we have used two comparators for
two sensors. LM358 is used as comparator. LM358 has inbuilt
two low noise Op-amp.
Control Section: Microcontroller is used for controlling
the whole the process of this visitor counter project. The
outputs of comparators are connected to pins. It reads these
signals and sends commands to relay driver circuit to drive the
relays for light bulb controlling.

Display section: Display section contains a 7 segment

display. This section will display the counted number of
people entering and outgoing and light status in the room.

Relay Driver section: Relay driver section consist two

transistor and relay for controlling the light bulb. Transistor is used to
drive the relay because microcontroller does not supply enough
voltage and current to drive relay. So we added a relay driver circuit to
get enough voltage and current for relay. Microcontroller sends
commands to this relay driver transistor and then light and fan will turn
on/off accordingly.
The outputs of IR Sensor Modules are directly connected to
microcontroller pin. Rest of connections are shown in the below circuit
diagram.

BUZZER SECTION: When any people enter the room there

would be buzzer which indicate that the person have entered the room
and simultaneously take the count.

Camera action An Internet protocol camera, or IP

camera, is a type of digital video camera commonly employed for
surveillance, and which, unlike analog closed circuit television
(CCTV) cameras, can send and receive data via a computer
network and the Internet. Although most cameras that do this
webcam, the term "IP camera" is usually applied only to those
used for surveillance.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
CONCLUSION

We conclude that this project helps us to control the room lights

according to the count of persons in the room and simultaneously
works as a security system when the camera is attached. When
somebody enters into the room then the counter will be
incremented accordingly the LED light in the room will be switched
ON and when any one leaves the room then the counter will be
decremented. The light will be only switched OFF when the room is
vacant. The number of the LED lights will be ON according to the
total number of persons inside the room and the count will be
displayed.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
More than one candidate should not enter or exit the room. If
it happens it will count it as a single person.

In this Module we are using a room having capacity of 9

candidates. So we are using only one segment that can show
from 0 to 9 only. For a large room we will use a number of
segments. For example for 9999 candidate we will use 4
segments.
