For this lesson, chapter 6-7: Visual Arts will be used and incorporated. I will take into
consideration some of the activities/strategies given in the chapter and integrate them
into the lesson. On page 222, it discusses visual arts being an essential communication
tool. Words and ideas can be expressed through words or images and this lesson connects
the two.
For this lesson, I will use pictures of summer and winter days, Summer Day, Winter
Day poem by Larissa Kelly, and a worksheet from a resource text. All materials will be
provided by HOST.

To differentiate between grade levels, I will show each grade the same images but ask the
older students (3-5) to make a list comparing the two on their own worksheet where the
younger students (k-2) can draw the similarities/differences. Depending on grade level I
will also adjust the questions and worksheet to fit each grades criterion.

The group was very attentive and focused during the lesson and seemed interested comparing
the poem to the images. I did this lesson in the cafeteria during homework time so there were a
few distractions. However, my step-by-step plan seemed to be effective when this happened so I
was able to regain the attention of the students. If I were to change anything from the lesson it
would be what the students were comparing. I chose summer and winter because summer is
almost here. Depending on the interest of the students you can choose anything to compare that
is relevant to their lives and culture.
